MAF question

I mail ordered a new AC Delco maf sensor for my wife's 99 Z28.When I received the sensor it looks nothing like the stock sensor /housing. The new one is plastic and has a different design. Did GM redesign this or should I send this back and go to a dealer?

Unlikely that it's a proper replacement, more likely
a dumb online ordering experience. If it has a three
prong plug then maybe somebody's decided to go
after the aftermarket on these finally, but if it's a
5-pin connector then it's just a wrong substitution.

I did a search on AC Delco web site and it shows the new replacement in plastic with a 5 prong plug. The sensor came with an adapter to go from 5 to 3. The actual electric piece does say AC Delco. I read that it is now made in plastic to combat heat soak.

The Delphi AF 10056 is the stock replacement. The original metal maf with air foil is discontinued. There are few threads about it floating around.

So is these new ones better for our ls1 f-body's if so then I'll replace mine

Not sure if it is better but my wife's car went way lean at wot. Puledl the maf off my car and solved the problem. When I ordered a new AC Delco maf it is not the same. After doing some searching it seems GM discontinued the original metal maf and replaced it with a plastic version. I checked on the AC Delco website and the maf that I received is as pictured on there website. The new maf and a built in IAT but it comes with a pigtail to converter from 5 pin to 3 pin. Thank goodness for the wideband.
