Freakin awesome info! But that could change tomorrow.

I agree and I will probably get a bunch of those wix filters.

Anyone else as sick of Chinese junk as I am? All we get is trash products.
Can I get a "Make America great again" Sorry for the Trump 2016 plug

It is possible to get good quality products from China. A manufacturer needs to specify the raw goods, machinery and processes used and demand quality control and batch testing. This is normally attained when the buyer has somebody onsite in China overseeing everything.

If you're not there to oversee the entire process, they skip every step they can.

The problem is that many manufacturers allow their Chinese subcontractor to do whatever they want unsupervised.

...I think I'm just going to declare myself done with K&N oil filters. I just got back from Advance Auto where I returned the 5 I had sitting in my garage. 4 were made in Mexico and 1 in Korea. I think I'm going to try a Wix 51042XP and see how it does...

Exactly, my personal thoughts are, we get lower quality products because the
greedy people ordering the product wants the product to be as cheap as they can
get it. If you start paying attention, some of our top shelf products also
come from China, but they order a product with higher standards, that they pay a little more for. Just my .02

Luck fella! In my area, we have AutoZone, Pep Boys and Nappa. None have Wix or even heard of Wix.

This thread has me wondering about my pf61 tall truck ac delcos. Didn't realize that they were not USA. Never had a problem with them, always used them on my work trucks and my new 408 and for 20k on the last motor, both pf46 and 61s. I have one I pulled from my car that I have been meaning to cut open and look at when I put my car away for winter and changed the oil. Maybe I will open it up tomorrow. Probly has 800 miles on it. I will have to look at the boxes / filters,to see their origin, been buying multiples at once from Summit and Amazon. I would prefer to put top quality parts on my new motor. I can always keep the delcos for my trucks.

Wix has that (ACDelco PF61) in their 51522, also in the XP version, 51522XP.

Thanks for the numbers. I just never really heard of the delcos having problems. I have heard and seen fram have problems for sure.

Thank you. I will continue with the longer truck style ones since I am not lowered and they don't hang low at all. I assume that they have a bit more filter area to capture particles. I like clean oil btw you are lucky to find a medium blue bird. One of my fav of the rare 98-99 colors

It's certainly easier to find a better filter for just a few bucks more. I believe all retailers carry Mobil1, which will do very well.
If you think purolators are junk, you shouldnt be giving out advice on oil and filters, as they are ranked some of the best oil filters on the market. You can stick with your 30 dollar gimmick filters, ill stick with the 10 dollar purolator.

That "made in china" bandwagon is so cliche these days. Consider the fact that 90% of all the products you own are made overseas, and probably more then 50% of those are made in china, the anti china sentiment makes me laugh. I'd also consider the fact that alot of the parts made in the USA are equally junk half the time as well. I look at the quality and track record of the product, not the mfg country. I put little faith in an american union worker on a friday night trying to get out of work early producing my products in the same manner I put little faith in the mexican sweatshop producing alot of OEM GM parts, and the chinese rip off brands that cut out every possible safety implementation in a product to sell it at a fraction of the cost.

I'm lowered on bmr 1.25 drop and I run the bigger truck filter (WIX 51522) with no problems whatsoever. So you'll be fine if you ever decide to lower yours, we have more potholes than an off road event around here and you'll bottom out on other things before it hits that filter lol.

K&N reminds me of BMWs and Mercs. Overpriced / not worth the extra money (compared to say a Corvette, or normal filter) and you get extra problems (compared to say a Corvette, or normal filter). I wouldn't buy a K&N oil or air filter if they were half the price of ordinary filters. And what on earth is with that ugly K&N air filter colour? I don't wanna see that pinkish-burgundy crap in my engine bay. Rather pay 4x less and have a nice blue or white air filter.

How many oil filters have you purchased new and opened up for examination and comparison?

Where is Purolator rated as some of the best filters? Better than Baldwin? Better than Amsoil EAO?

What makes a filter a gimmick filter? Better components inside, better design and made in the USA?

Who was talking about $30 filters? The Wix XP is $7.28 at Rock Auto, $7.99 at O'Reilly's, found by BandDirector.

Did you read this entire thread where Purolator was discussed? Did you read about the string Purolator ties around their filter media? Did you follow some of the links in this thread?

If you like Purolator filters and they work well for you, by all means go ahead and continue using them (at ten bucks each).

I agree with much of this. Manufacturing quality can be pretty poor regardless of country of origin. There are some manufacturers in Asia that make fine products. One needs to be careful and educated when purchasing anything these days.

The angle of my comments stemmed from a wider view of what is being looked at here. I have 4 kids and the toys from China (or other places) are total ****. Frozen peppers, onions, garlic ect at the grocery store from China? Come on man. I have a wider view of whats going on hence the "Make America great again" plug. It was a simple statement big deal? Who says I'm saying anything promoting unions? I didn't know you had to be of a union to want to bring back jobs to our country? IDK what "bandwagon" you're on but at this point its no wonder why America is so dumbed down. I guess some peoples scope on what's going on around them are about as large as a freaking oil filter? Anywho, I'm off to more exciting things. Have fun ******* your brain with oil filters

We all have our thoughts and ideas what imported products do to us as well as stuff made here. We could go on about it forever........

Let's keep this about the sharing of oil filter info and experiences.
