Default Better cooling radiator

I know most people use the LT1 style radiator but I'm wanting to upgrade to a Becool radiator. I am using an external transmission cooler so could I just order a manual transmission radiator and gain more cooking capacity? What version have people had good luck with? 60246 80246?

Thanks
Jason

I doubt that for a drag race / street car you'll need more
than the -much- more affordable LT1 style. "Want" and
"need" being two different things.

I just would like the extra cooling capacity due to sitting in traffic and going to the track in the summer time. Ive had some cooling issues in the past with the very hot summers. Plus who knows the motor might grow bigger in the future and I'll be ready for it.

Yes, a Be Cool cured my in traffic overheating issues.

Going external for the trans cooler won't "add capacity" to a radiator but it's one less thing for the radiator to cool.

I've had bad luck with in-radiator trans coolers springing leaks which will of course lead to a costly transmission rebuild. Even on my daily driver, I eliminate the trans lines to the radiator and install an external plate style cooler.

My ebay aluminum setup also works just fine, and fit better than the be cool according to a few threads I've seen. The be cool has a 2.5 core and the ebay is basically a dual core like an lt1 with aluminum end tanks

I run the becool 60028. I like the cooling performance but it holds at least a gallon more coolant vs the stock LS1 radiator and itvwas a bitch to fit.

That extra gallon adds 8 lbs to the nose

Which eBay radiator are you guys running, anyone got a part number or seller on there to trust? I need to pick something up for my car because the factory radiator broke at one of the end tanks when I removed it.

It's technically listed as a 2002 camaro v6 radiator. You need to tap the radiator below the cap to add the coolant cross over hose from the cylinder heads. I just tapped the old radiator level switch with a 3/8 hose barbed fitting

Just search 02 camaro radiator, you'll see it, price will vary but should be able to get it around 150 bucks.

Good deal, Ill see what I can find. I searched for it earlier for a bit but I guess all the ones coming up were designed for the v8 cars and in the 250+ range on price. If I can get one like you guys have for 150 ish instead of the LT1 radiator with the shitty plastic end tanks Ill jump all over it. Thanks fellas.

A BeCool Radiator will definitely solve your cooling issues. On my old Camaro, I used their kit, or as they call it "Module" that included the radiator, electric fans, and mounting hardware. It was rated at 1,000-HP and I was pushing around 650-700 with a good ol' 468 Stroker BigBlock. I never had to worry about overheating much after I installed the BeCool Setup. She stayed right around 190 degree's, even in the Summers in Vegas.

The 60246, rated up to 700-HP, is just the radiator itself.
The 80246 will come with dual fans, wiring harness and relays for fans, and hardware to mount everything. Now this setup would be ideal since it has everything you need to keep higher HP engine cool using the correct dual fan setup. If you have the spare change, I would go with this setup.

Dont you know that Antifreeze/Coolant leaking into the trans cooler portion of the radiator, mixing with the Trans Fluid, actually helps keep the transmission cooler!? They don't call it Coolant for no reason.

I have actually had that happen to me on my old 73 Square body, not a fun time at all. It just ruins your clutches in your trans.

The lt1 isn't a bad option, but the aluminum end tanks definitely seem to help cooling. Those suckers get hot after a while.

The ebay ones come with the trans cooler built in, you can leave them capped and not use them. I've debated just running the heater hoses to them and bypassing my heater core if my hoses ever fail to the core

Just an update. Installed the be cool 60246, good fit. Only issue/problem I don't like is the tabs that hold the oem electric fan setup. The slots aren't as tight against the radiator as the oem one. Other than that pretty solid piece.

I also had the same problem with the eBay radiator. I ended up trimming the top and bottom of the fan shroud and cutting the aluminum slide in brackets to help the shroud sit flush against the fan. Photobucket changed its terms and does not remote link photos

Anyways, the aluminum bracket that holds the fan is a square with a tab on it, I cut the top part of the square to make the radiator fan sit right against the radiator
