Default Mufflex or Hooker Catback?

Which would be better flowing, and louder... the 3.5inch mufflex catback with spintech single in dual out muffler, or the hooker catback. I want a nice and deep catback with a good amount of volume. I have heard that hooker flows well but is pretty quiet. I heard a cammed SS with longtubes and offroad y with the mufflex system, and it was LOUD. I will have longtubes next spring, but want some more volume out of my stock WS6. Do you think the mufflex is worth it, because hooker is half the price? Thanks!

Also, does flowmaster really flow that bad, and sound horrible on an LS1?

Oh, Mufflex all the way. I have Hooker LTs 3in Y to Mufflex 4in with a single outlet. Its loud, but nothing that will kill you. Also, with the Mufflex you can get SpinTech mufflers, which sound amazing and have to flow better than flowmaster. It has a very deep tone.

The Hooker will hands down outflow either of the Mufflex mufflers.

Should I just get true duals? Only i don't like the sound of x-pipes, can they make true duals with H-pipes? How much is it to have them run them all the way over the axle and have tips out the back. What mufflers could I use on true duals? That sound good!

I recieved my car with the flowmaster catback already installed on it. I did not drive it without it so I couldn't tell you if it gained anything or not. But, it does sound pretty good. I am getting rid of it for the hooker catback though.

The Mufflex Flowmaster is not an 80 series crossflow, they are the ones that don't flow, the Muffler that mufflex uses is a Deltaforce Flowmaster, It flows real good, don't confuse them.

I know, I would be going with the spintech muffler anyway. Just wondering if flowmasters flow all that bad. I am really considering true duals now

Do not get the mufflex systems unless you plan on doing a H/C or a larger engine. 3 inch systems will make you lose some low end torque, let a lone a 3.5 or 4.00 inch system. This is what mufflex told me when I visited there shop BTW.

True duels will flow the best.

So I guess it is a bad idea to not listen to the guys who MAKE the system, AND to spend MORE money on a system that makes WORSE power than a 280 dollar system. Oh, I guess I let out a secret, too............

two very different tones imo. I went with hooker cause i wanted something quiet at idle but would pick up sound as i picked up the pace. Hooker is going to outflow mufflex but youd have to do a search for some flow tests cause i dont have them handy to tell you exactly.

You dont lose power with a larger system, it just pushes it up in the rpms where it counts. races usually dont just got to 3500 and shift...now the problem would be with a 4 inch system, do you have enough of a power band (rev limiter and cam) to get the full use out of it? stock internals..probably not.

hooker gets my vote. second vote would be true duals but id wait to get the lt's first and do it all at once.

have you thought about a cut out for now? i've changed my exhaust 9 times. im on my 10th exhaust set up cause i could never make up my mind. Dont make mistake. a cut out should be around 60 bucks installed (for a manual one that is) and would be a great alternative and give you what you are looking for till you get the lts. Then you cuold change out everything at once!

all flowmaster mufflers flow like ****, even the delta force

im running a 3.5" single in/out small cased delta force race muffler, and i gain 14 rwhp and 10 rwftlbs when i open the cutouts

but it is the best sounding exhaust ive ever heard

ok, here I go.

I went from stock to a flowmaster crossflow muffler, the flowmaster sounded badass but did flow worse than stock. I could feel it. I just this week ditched the flowmaster for a hooker catback. The car definitely feels much much quicker now, especially with the stall converter. The flowmaster with the stall converter did not sound as good as it did before the stall, it sounded better down low in the RPM. The hooker is quite nice, and I keep reading that it will get louder. I keep smelling something funky, I assume it's some sort of packing burning out of the muffler.

Go with the Hooker, you won't be dissapointed.
(although i need to take mine to a muffler shop because the tailpipes are way too long, they stick out at least 2 or more inches from the bumper!)

I might just have to wait and do the full exhaust - lontubes, true duals over the axle and tailpipes- all at once. I can handle a quiet car for about 9 months...I think. If I get true duals, what mufflers should I get? How much more is it to have the pipes come over the axle and have tailpipes rather than dumping them before the axle?
