Default Gut or remove catalytic converter

I was wondering what would have to be done in order to remove or gut the catalytic converter on my 98 TA? I am getting ready to put the Borla on it and figured I might do this at the same time.

I have searched and was unable to come up with an answer.

Need O2 simulators.

Headers/Off Road Y-Pipe

or

Take a saw and cut them out. Then find some pipe and weld it where you cut the cats out.

Borla sounds like **** IMO with !cats or gutted cats. Might wanna leave them on til you get LT's, you will see almost no performance increase by removing them on stock manifolds, which I assume you have.

Well, I still have stock manifolds. I had the Borla on my LT1 Camaro with the converter removed and it sounded good, and I just can't see the two sounding much different.

I wonder if o2 sims froma 97 are the same?

I have to get some welding done anyway to get the Borla on, so I may cut them out and try it, not sure on it yet.

The car has 80k on it and I figured they might be starting to get stopped up or something.

I would find someone with test pipes and see what you think of borla without cats.

I have heard it, and I liked it with cats over without cats.

Cool, I might try it with cats first to see how well I like it.

Thanks

Big difference. Iron block LT1 and Aluminum block LS1. Aluminum=RASP w/o cats, especially when you run it through a Borla.

I don't detect any rasp through my SLP CME. A little boomy
but mellow. However, I took some pains to grind off some
sharp edges I found in the cats when gutting; the collars
they use for assembly fit-up leave a sharp ridge inside the
neck. Also my manifolds are ported to gasket size. If you
can gring off anything that looks like dog whistle it may
help. That, or get yourself some offroad tubes.

Cats don't die they are murdered, Unless you bang them or something. They are theoretically supposed to last forever and generally don't just clog up unless the engine is running bad. Just some info.

ok, just wondering about them getting clogged, a friend of mine bought a 95 Formula a few years ago and the cats were clogged very very badly on it, it dropped 2 tenths by cutting them off of the car.

well, the Borla is on and with the solid plate it is quiet but has a good sound to it. It doesn't have the popping that the Flowmaster had when you let off the gas.

also, not sure about the firing order.

I've heard of that problem on LT1 cars a fair amount, but not on LS1's.
