A few questions...first, why does dynatech not sell a y-pipe w/o cats? I know the cats make a minimal power difference but I don't want to spend the extra money for high flow cats since I live in California and am going to have to go back to stock manifolds and y-pipe for smog anyway. Secondly, if I was to buy Kooks LTs and Y I think should get 1"7/8s due to the future mods I have planned*. If I bought the Pacesetters I would get 1"3/4s since that is all they offer. At what power level would the 1"3/4 primary size be comprimised? Would the 1"7/8s be overkill if I did decide to spend an extra $500 on Kooks?

* I'm planning on a cam swap, AFR heads, and most likely a bottle after that. Plus a stall and rearend when I grenade that stock one

Gaskets, 02 Extentions ex.... And my custom Y-pipe that's still not made yet would help a little..... I'll be doing the install later on... hopefully ASAP!! I'll post on how everything goes... Wish me luck!

"Looking" like kooks doesn't count for much.

$200 does and the performance is no different. Same damn Stainless Steal, but with a better fit.

Get the Kooks. I have the Hooker LT's (coated) and the next set I will buy is the Kooks 1 7/8.

I have QTP's with HVMC's and love this setup. They'll never rust and nothing to chip off = if you polish them up before the install like I did mine they looks sweet ! i definitely have more than $800 into this setup probably more like $1500 including y-pipe to fit the headers, but now that they're on there I'm glad I waited a little longer and spent the money to get them instead of a cheaper coated header.

Yup, same problem here.

If you want to spend that money, just buy some stainless steel headers. If not, you'll be like the rest of us who went the cheap route the first time and will have to end up going back and doing it all over again.

^^ Yep, but you get to do it two more times for the same price. By then, you've either sold/traded the car or have a ton of miles on the engine more than likely.
Regardless, you get what you pay for.

It will be years before your headers rust though..I had set of painted headers on a 4X4 truck when I lived up north where they used a lot of salt on the roads in the winter. Never painted them except when I installed them. It took 9 years to rust thought..how many of you will own your car in nine years.. ..I bought Pacesetters coated...they will probably last longer than nine years here in the sunny south..when they do rust through if I still own this car I'll spend another $379 for another set of coated Pacesetters...I bet there isn't 5 HP difference between any of the LT's no matter who makes them IMHO..

I would skip the headers and do a front mount turbo. If it had to be headers, I would do the Kooks Stainless steel again. No problems with them and the went in with ease.

unless you get stainless your headers are eventually gonna get surface rust, thats just what exhaust does cause it is so hot. it would take many years for them to rust completely through. pacesetters all the way i even had the money to buy whatever ones i wanted.
