Default Crank Pulley Install Problems

I just swapped out my cam back to stock and was re-installing my ASP pulley and am having one hellova' time getting it back on the crank properly!!! I have went through 2 new crank pulley bolts trying to get it to seta properly. The first time I installed it (when new) it was no problem to get it installed and lined up with my other pulleys. Now I am between 1/8" and 1/4" from being all the way back. It jerked a rib off my main belt and throws my A/C belt immediately! ANy tips &/or tricks on how to get this SOB seated properly? I put a breaker bar on it last night and turned it another thread or two but the pulley didn't seem to move at all. Could I heat the hell out of it without damaging my front cover seal? HELP!!! TIA for any advice!

Aren't you supposed to get it warm or hot to help it stretch out more easily?

I always heat it up and then use some just a little grease on the inside of the pulley, you really gotta tq those things down, I can remember to tq specs but I wanna say past 200 ft lbs, then you gotta turn it like 180 degrees past that, check ls1howto.com I think he has a pulley install.

Do a search you can find all kinds of info about this and get the proper tq specs, what I am telling you is just from a foggy memory so don't use verbatim.

Default Crankshaft thread damage?

I guess what I was mainly concerned about was damaging the crankshaft threads by trying to overtighten the bolt, which is a stock (new) tty bolt.

You have to torque that thing to as close to 240 ft/lbs as you possibly can to get it all the way on there.

you need the installation tool that 618 HAWK is selling in the tools of the trade forum to help push it on the rest of the way. It'll make installing the bolt a simple matter of starting it then tightening.

An impact def runs the risk of stripping the threads. Although that's quite contrary to your success thus far. Just something to watch out for.

You don't start it using an impact. ASP pulleys you can get a few threads on before it gets tight. Stock pulleys you can use a little bit longer bolt to start it then swap over to a stock bolt to finish it.
