Default Does your McCord Electric Cutout leak? How long does it take to open?

I have been thinking about getting a McCord Electric Cutout Opener. Does yours leak? How long does it take to open? I might just get a Mufflex but this would be cheaper because I already have a cutout.

I bought a McCord as everyone said that it was great. Wheen i took it out of the box, I could see light thru it, so yes, it will leak. I was told to put goop on it, , so I sold it off on ebay. . I may try a 'quick-time' .

I did put high temp RTV (a small amount) around the lip recess so that the plate isn't just sealing metal to metal. These things take alot of use and abuse (at least mine does ). I also found the McCord was alot easier to install. I've done installs on both QTEC and McCord and having to cut off the welded studs on certain cutouts is a royal PITA. The McCord has recessed areas where the bolts still work on short cutout studs.

Quicktime is one of our sponsors and I hear great things about their cutouts NOT leaking.

The Quicktime (QTEC) has a lip machined around the perimeter of the blade opening and will not leak. Very nice quality!

They both have a machined lip that the butterfly rests on. They will both obviously leak a tiny bit. Use some copper RTV along that lip (on either one) and it will create a nice soft 'bed' to seal better.

Make sure you get a good gasket or RTV between the cutout and the body of the mpp/qtp, you can get leaks there as well.

I love my McCord. Keith is a great guy to work with and offers the best bang for the buck as far as cutout is concerned in my opinion. All of them leak a little bit. I can't hear my own leak but a couple of people swear to me they can hear it. Whatever. Cutouts in general are a blast and well worth the money, especially considering the costs of catbacks these days.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the McCord takes approximately 1 full second to open. It's slower to close though, I guess the exhaust flow hinders it. Never tried to close it with the car off though.

I don't want to rain on the parade but my new quick time leaks closed. One guy said he found the rtv between quick time controller and cutout gets
squished and stops the blade from closing fully and he scraped it off and it was fine..but said sometimes you have to hit the button again after you first close it.I was also told to try some high heat rtv from quicktime.I most often find I drive the car with the cutout opened just a tiny bit and then the leaking doesn't have any affect.
i am not sure if some kind of high tension spring or something would help. Was also thinking maybe a person could put some kind of high heat rubber around the lip of the blade or mabye put some muffler tape or something to make the thing seal better somehow. The last couple days not sure if I noticed it leaking anymore.Maybe like a lot of stuff I just don't hear it anymore of maybe a bit of carbon in there has sealed things up more. Also one thing on the quick time is that the studs on the cutout are very short..so short I don't think any real gasket will fit between them so you pretty much have to use high temp rtv between the two pieces.I think my leak is at the blade though and was very obvious when standing beside the car or with windows down.I will muck with it a bit more in next few weeks maybe..it seems to open and close smoothly and quickly.I still think some kind of rubber around the blade lip might work good.but machined lip or not the thing is leaking. Not the end of the world..its a neat toy.If I can't get the leaking to stop or be better than it was last time I listened I might want to get quick time to ship me another one to try but usually pretty good at solving these little problems myself.
