Installed my true dual w/ x-pipe on my M6 SS yesterday - Pics Inside...
I had my true dual exhaust setup installed on my M6 SS yesterday. I bought the Dr Gas universal x-pipe setup and 2 Dynomas bullit mufflers. This setup sounds AWESOME! I have been trying to get this exhaust sound on all my Camaros for years!
I had the shop mount the bullits right to the headers, then into the x-pipe then dump before the axle. All the piping is 3" with mandrel bends, we did a few crushed bends where needed, but not too bad.
Here are some pics I took..

As you can see I have great clearance!! Better than before actually!

Here is my old exhaust, 3" y-pipe and LoudMouth Cat Back...

Re: Installed my true dual w/ x-pipe on my M6 SS yesterday - Pics Inside...
Hey guys.
Gimp98tnt: The install cost was $150 for labor. I brought all my own pipes, I spent under $300 for all the materials. 2 Bullit Mufflersabout $70 and the x-pipe kit from Dr Gas with mandrel bends was about $200. I told Dr Gas not to send me the header flanges because I have the SLP headers the exhaust slips on then uses a clamp, not the bolt together flanges.
Damian: I have the 1LE suspension from the dealer. I'm running the stock height, not lowered. I am very surprised with how much ground clearance I have after the install, I could probably lower the car an inch if I wanted to and still be fine on clearance.
SpankyLS1: I have a Lakewood drive shaft loop, I bought it from Jegs for like 30 something bucks. Its a great item, fully adjustable and solid, not to mention cheap! most DS loops are like $99!
I was nervous about trying to put true duals with an x-pipe on a M6, I hunted all over the message boards looking for some good pics. I found alot of guys that did it but I wanted to see how it came out. While they had my car on the lift I walked over to walgreens and bought a disposable camera. I hope my pics will help someone in the future who is looking to do what I did.

Honestly...Can you be VERY descriptive...
How is the interior noise with the X vs the LM???
I have !muffler, and will have a similar setup finished by next year. The only thing that has stopped me is fear of excessive drone with an X and dumps.
I have an A4, how is highway driving in 3rd or 4th gear??
Your info is GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Installed my true dual w/ x-pipe on my M6 SS yesterday - Pics Inside...
INSSANE: This exhuast beats the living **** out of the LM with headers. In my opinion the LM was never made to be used with headers. The LM sounds great on the stock exhaust manifold but as soon as you add headers the exhaust is just insane, especially at WOT. Then of course if you remove the cats its worse.
When I first got in the car and started it up after the x-pipe install I was expecting the car to be crazy loud. It wasn't. It started right and just purred. I rev'd it up to like 5K let off the gas and it just growled up and down, no popping no rasp, just the perfect exhuast note you've ever heard. like ggggGGGGGGRRRRRRRrrrrrr. Here's a quote from the exhaust guy "Man, that sounds healthy!"
I really need to get my DV camera back from my friend, so I can get a video with some sound of this exhaust.
There are no rattling noises, previously my tail pipes used to shake, especially after I did my cam install. Sometimes my intermediate pipe would rattle against my drive shaft safety loop at certain rpms. With the new exhaust its tight, they used 4 hangers, 2 near the x-pipe and 2 back at the turn downs. I have 0 rattle, and I swear I even picked up a little torque, it feels like since the ehaust is tighter as the engine shakes its not giving up torque to the ehaust. Hard to explain...
For the turn downs, I am extremely please. There is no drone in the car, it sounds like the exhaust is with tail pipes. I haven't smelled any fumes while sitting at stop lights with the windows down at all. I was also concerned about the look of the rear end with no tail pipes, but honestly I realy like the way it looks no with out tail pipes. If you have ever feard a LS1 with no headers and LM, its close to the same decible out side the car. But no drone inside.
Again I have to come back to how the car sounds, in my opinion its "perfect". I have been searching for this sound for years. I would recommend this setup to anyway that can do it. It just totally kick ***.

Sweet...are you comparing this to LM with no cats and headers?
I might do true duals, X, with cats and cutouts before cats. Just to keep it sleeper b/c I will prob do a 230/230 110 lsa cam. Gotta keep her nice and quiet!
Can you record inside the car driving and some outside sounds?
E-mail them to me when you can at INSSANE99SS@aol.com
Thanks!!!

Re: Installed my true dual w/ x-pipe on my M6 SS yesterday - Pics Inside...
Originally I tried to engineer a way to go over the axle and exit out the rear with duals, no matter how I looked at it, it wasn't really possible. The only decent passage over the axle is where the I-pipe goes over on stock cars. 1 3" pipe is a tight fit duals even 2.5" would barely fit.
I'm starting to get used to having no tips, beside the sound of the car makes up for everything.

Looks good! I think its the first setup i've seen with the bullets before the x-pipe.I wonder how much different the sound is compared to having it after the x-pipe.Mine's after the x,and its a killer sound!I also had the loudmouth before and this setup now blows it away.I have a few pics on my site of my setup,if anyone wants to compare .
I need to get some pics up of my stock tips out back,as there fake just to give it that stock look.
Everyone thats seen it thinks it was a good idea.
anyway...good job bro!!

I know I would love the sound of the exhaust under the car but I'm just weird and I want to figure out a way to route the duals out the back to a set of stock tips to make it realistic.

I've read a number of places that some States have laws in place that demand that the exhaust must be routed either to the side or rear edges of the cars body to be legal. Do you know anything on that score in your area?

wow! i really like that setup. im thinking of doing that now. how are noise levels? my only concern would be that it would sound like im driving a race car all the time. how are clearance issues too? have you scraped at all, and how much do you think you might scrape if you drive it every day?
