i have a question

my 98 firebird 3.8 has a single FLowmaster 80. with the dual outlets. it sounds like ****. i dont think its cuz its if a v6. its just the muffler period. so would installing dual Flowmaster 40s make it sounds the way it should?

i had a 99 mustang 3.8 with true duals and 2 flowmaster 40s and it sounded perfect. sounded alot like my 97 mustang GT with the same set-up.

does it even have anything to do with the dual exhaust? if i just installed a regular Flowmaster 40 (1 inlet/1 outlet).. would that sounds better?

does it sonud worse the further back the muffler is? cuz on mustangs its before the rear wheels.

if i was gonna do the exhaust myself. where would i buy the piping at? would a muffler shop sell it to me?

so can i just have the pipes running straight under the car. i'm always on a flat road so i doubt that the pipes would hit anything. i just want to run 2 pipes straight back then put 2 flowmaster 40s at the end.

you can get universal kit from sumit racing or jegs. i got a universal flowmaster d-port kit from summit and it works great.

single flowmaster = bad. duals ya, although i'd say your best mod would be a ls1/t56 swap

Ok so I would like to run some true duals. I'm thinking of doing 3 inch. Hooker LT Headers into some Manaflow hi flow cats #94109 (for visual inspections) some kind of X or H pipe (still havn't decided) over the axle and through some sweet thunders out the back. Does this sound like a good combo? The only problem I see is the 3 inch over the axle.

so would the UMI Performance Panhard Bar Relocation Kit from the WS6Store work or is there a better relocation kit

If I did 2.5 inch I wouldn't need this kit and from what I've read 2.5 is enough for most set ups. So why run 3 inch is there a benifit somewhere I'm not seeing unless you get to high HP numbers?

I made my own True Dual exhaust for my 403 cid APS twin car

T 304 stainless 3 inch tubing Tigged up W/O mufflers but I will probaly add them later as it is still a little loud for my taste right now. The system comes out in 3 sections + the tail pipes split in 2 so I can drop the tranny pretty easy

The longer than normal X pipe is 4 inch oval that fits aound the Spohn Torque arm mount that is straight and made for the stock or kooks exhaust. the car also has both front and rear Driveshaft safety loops which made it quite a bit harder to run the dual 3" tubing.
(the green paint is where my 5 year helped me one night)

Hey Darren P,

That's the best looking td setup I've seen...You ought to set up shop and produce those.

I think it works pretty good but I made sure it was not any smaller than a 4" pipe where it was at. Also, any X pipe I have ever seen was pretty close to the same size tubing as the pipe before and after it
