Best fitting headers that won't hurt the wallet and will last (although not as long as stainless) are going to be coated pacesetters. period.

I have hooker lt's and they fit perfectly went in fairly easy and no rubbing of any kind. Altogether with the y-pipe and the headers being jet-hot coated they ran me $888 on the nuts!

Can't you order a coated version from them for like a buck fifty more?

Yes, they do offer a coated version, although I'm not sure how much more, IMO you are wasting you're money buying uncoated.

But on another note, every company will have good parts and bad parts. This is because the quality control on aftermarket parts as a whole is quite poor. Going with Kooks or QTP may reduce your chances of having bad parts, but wont eliminate it.
Sounds like you need poly motor mounts. I have almost zero clearance between my K and QTP's, yet no banging.

Maybe if you live up North. There are far less rust issues in the south due to the climate and altitude.

are poly motor mounts required for the headers/y-pipe not to slam around in the car?

I did my poly mounts when I did my headers and duals so I can't compare before and after. However, based on how much less the engine torques and how tight the header/exhaust clearance is, I would say they are a requirement.

If you are doing headers JUST DO POLY MOUNTS AT THE SAME TIME!

They are inexpensive, will help to prevent any exhaust banging and just generally make the car feel tighter. If you ever decide you want poly motor mounts after you put you're headers on you will be kicking yourself!

Here is a badass writeup written by me

Kooks. No poly motor mounts here and no banging of anything whatsoever. No hitting the K-member and no Y hitting the floor.
