Default Used motor mounts? Yes or no.

I'm in need of doing some motor mounts. I am only pushing stock power to the wheels so I don't need anything other than the stock mounts. My question is would you guys use used mounts? I mean I have my eyes on a few sets that have under 20k on them. Mine have 97k right now and didn't really cause issue's until I let the tranny hang low to get the top bolt during a clutch install which most likely ripped the mounts. So YES or NO...give me some input and experience with mounts please.

TIA

Josh

I would say if you are going to go through the trouble of changing them out you should go with some polly motor mounts the first time. You are probably going to mod the car in the future and you will want some motor mouonts to stop the vibration. I would seriously consider going with some polly motor mounts the first time and save yourself the trouble down the road. I know that wasnt quite your question but I thought I would throw it out there.

If mine ever came out, the only thing going back in would be aftermarket. Doesn't seem like something I'd wanna do more than once.

+1 Spring for the poly mounts now, you'll kick yourself for not doing it later. Might as well tighten up the engine, there are no disadvantages to poly engine mounts.

From what I have heard the poly's will give alot of vibration much like the poly trans mount. Its just what I have heard. Thanks for the input so far and please keep it coming!

If you are going to be that far into it.. at lease replace them with new stocker.. or just spend a little more for poly one..

You will get a bit more motor vibration if you go to Poly mounts other stuff..

Take into consideration.. Stock or mod, power you have and driver comfort.

The poly motor mounts are not that harsh. They do stiffen up the structure, but they are much more livable than you might imagine. After driving on them for a few days, you probably won't even notice them.

I've heard the opposite, and I've heard it a ****-ton of times. I even have them on my own car. Read this thread.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/641126-what-type-vibration-associated-poly-motor-mounts.html

The trans mount does cause some vibrations, but not the motor mounts. I've swapped clutches with mine in, and I managed to swing the trans down for the top bolts with no problems. They are only $50, they will never wear out, and they will be great for when you do more mods in the future.

I have all Poly stuff on my 84 Z28.. Front and rear...engine, trans, lower A-Arm, rear control arm, etc.. I feel it a lot!.. I think it is starting to bump my body apart.. over the many years that they have since they were installed.. 12+years

I think my body is becoming bent in half in both at the front strut tower and from front to rear.
My front end has move the struts out about 3/8" on both side and my Doors are now scraping the body on both sides..
The hood is now move out about 1/8+" past the front fenders and the rear hatch is also 1/8+" out or more also. All four don't open/close smooth anymore.
Those measuments may not seem like much.. in the long run.. it has it wear and tear... that is my 2 cents with Poly stuff..

Jesus...well I don't plan on having the car for that long but wow. I'm cool with slight vibrations because after all I didn't buy this car for a luxury ride.

That's an Extreme example. You have more than just poly Motor Mounts, a lot more! Poly suspension bushings are even a harsher ride than the poly trans mount! You can't compare poly suspension bushings with poly motor mounts, they are a different beast altogether...

What Can I say.. we do what we want .. I still have the car and bought it new in 84'.. I live with it. .may have one day restore it and take it to a frame shop to straighten it back and use subframe connectors to keep it that way.. (LOL.. making it more stiffer. !)

I just noticed you have a poly trans mount, you won't feel a damn thing with motor mounts!

You have to grind/drill the rivets off the stock clamshells to remove the stock mounts. Then you have to install the polys and bolt the clams back together.

Hmm...that seems similar to the torque arm bushing install. I had to drill out the rivets and slip the the bushing in with a ton of grease and clam shell it back together with the bolt it originally had. It was a very tight fit!
