Default battery just died, what new one should I buy?

well my car battery just died the combo of the recent cold weather in NY and not having driven it for a while killed the stock ac delco. what brand should i get as a replacement. i was thinking of a die hard from sears. they have them warranteed for 36 months free replacement and are about $75. but i figured if anyone out there knows of a better and/or cheaper brand to get lemme know.

Most batteries nowadays have free replacement for 3 yrs/pro-rated after that. I tried a sears diehard gold, only lasted 2 years, but found out later LS1's need a 690 CCA battery, one they sold me was only a 550 "warm climate battery" probably cause of my location. Gave me a full refund towards an optima red top (720 CCA) though.

you have lots of choices. there is ac delco, sears diehard, optima. i would stay away from advance, pep boys, autozone. anything cheap is cheap, 99% of the time.

if that's true than why does the factory battery only have 525 cca? the die hard has like 630 i think. so thats definately an improvement over the stock which lasted 5 years. i have no idea why yours only lasted 2, that seems really really low even if it had 550 cca (still more than stock).

yeah, the only problem with the optima is they are more than double the cost of the diehard. the cheapest i saw was $150.

The Optimas are expensive but they are really great! I f you have a problem with them down the road just take it back, you get NO HASSLES with optimas.( at least in MobTown)

150 for OPTIMA...You get what you pay for..in this instance...a Spiral Cell Battery that has no equals....all the HOT ROD Builders are using these, so are the Bonneville Flat guys, as well as DIRT and Late Models.

I personally like the AC Delco as a stock replacement. I got 7 years out of my first one!

i personally have had the same optima red top for the past 5 years, in 3 different vehicles. i LOVE them, NO corroding of terminals, no acid leaking and rusting your car (just go look at the subframe under the battery tray on your f-body). to me thats worth every penny!

According to my helms manual, the 525 CCA battery is the V6 battery, 690 for the LS1. Had to argue with sears over the 550 they sold me, maybe their "cold climate battery" is different - all they could tell me was "Thats what the computer says." I'll go with what the factory manual says.
