Electric Cutout Guys inside!!!
I know QTP make electric cutouts but I've heard there are other companys that make them too. I've also heard that people have alot of trouble with them burning up. Are the ones that are burning up located rite off the headers? How much trouble do the people that have them say under the rear passengers seat have? What kind of electric cutout are you running? How do you like it and what problems have you had with them?

I have two MPP2's, one after each header. They havn't burned up or anything and they came wired together so there is only one switch, which is what i wanted, but they don't open at the same speed and the stops aren't perfect so by the time the second one gets to 90 degrees, the other is at like 95-100 degrees. Also, i had one seize up once because i didn't keep it clean. I guess you get what you pay for. They are half the price of the QTPs.

The 99 Z28 I got as a donor car had a QTP cut out on it already. The motor didnt work when I got the car, and I took it apart and got it working again...for about 2 weeks. This was just playing with it too. Not hard driving or anything.
But in any case. I just ordered on from DMH. Great customer service. The guy was super cool on the phone. I had to get the actual cut out pipe from QTP because I wanted it to be stainless to match the rest of my ehxaust.
I should get the DMH cut out in the mail today hopefully...

Well thats what I was wanting to hear. I just ordered the DMH. Damn good price too considering some of them are over $500 bucks. Yea I can live with a 4 year warranty.

I've had my DMH for 2 years, and I had a problem with it starting to leak, I called him and he had me send the old one, and he sent me a new one-Thats what I call great customer service! I haven't had any problems with it besides that issue, and it works great-I love it.

The one that I had didnt "burn up" from an "idiot" holding the switch open too long... When I took it apart, all the littler gears had tooth damage and it was just binding like crazy. It was like the housing was flexing and let the teeth bind up a few times...then it just went to crap. Plus the blade wouldnt seal anymore... But again, I dont know how long the prev. owner was using it. Could have been a few years so maybe it was due to give up the ghost. Im not bashing QTP at all by the way...since I wasnt driving the car that had it on there. Just saying what I saw the little bit that I messed with it. And all i know is, even after 4 years the DMH is still under warrenty. Which is nice.
I just got my DMH in the mail yesterday. Bolted up nicely to the QTP cut out pipe. One thing I defnietly like about the DMH is that the mount holes are slotted. So you can tweak the position of the cutout even after you weldt he pipe in. So if something lines up alittle different after you finish up the exhaust, you still have some adjustability. Also the switch set up is very simple, very neat, and it comes with a plain old switch. Nothing fancy, no lights to burn out...
Cant wait to install this thing!!!

I have a McCord which is still operating well. It's
been on there for maybe 3 years now?
I picked up a dead one for playing with. What
killed that one was, a broken-off gear tooth
on one of the cast-zinc gears. The entire gear
box was crusty dry. These gizmos really deserve
some maintenance but nobody ever does it. If
the gearbox gets sticky then the motor current
goes up big time and if it stalls, that's how you
burn up your cutout.
I'm going to convert the broken one to vacuum
operated.

You mean because the QTP doesn't have an LED to let you know when it's 100% closed or open? My McCord does.....and it was $50 cheaper.
