Default Bangin'

I got my pacesetter lt's, and love 'em. But I cannot stand the bangin' under the car! Unless I take off like an old lady, I get it every time.
Now I need answers fellas. I know there's a bump stop hanger out there. I just haven't heard any good reports about them. I would love to get some advice on how to stop this.

how are your motor mounts doing? i know your car is a 2001 so it's not that old. however, if your car has many miles or has been subjected to harsh road conditions the motor mounts may be going soft. this can cause your headers to hit something underneath the car. i can't think of anything else it might be. pacesetters fit extremely well, i've never heard anyone complain about their fitment.

The Big Hammer trick works or you can switch your mounts like said above including transmission. Sometimes that works. That bump hanger does work, but is a pain to work with sometimes. That is why you will hear most people suggest getting a custom y-pipe made instead of getting a pre-fabbed banger.

The bump stop hangar is a waste of money in my experience. Your best bets are

In order of best way to do it to worst (IMO of course)

1. Solid motor mounts (not always practical!)
2. Poly motor mounts (JUST DO IT!)
3. Poly trans mount
4."Clearance" the floorboard
5. Bend the collector of the offending header down a bit to allow more y pipe to floorboard clearance
6. Stick the biggest F'in piece of heater hose you can find between the floorboard and the y pipe

I don't necessarily suggest the last one as it MAY not be safe. But I have been running my car that way for a long time (and it has worked GREAT) I suppose if its far enough down the ypipe temperatures arent that high.... and..... its heater hose!

I think the actual mounts are around 50 bucks. Get them from speed inc. they are a sponsor.

They arent that hard with headers off the car. with headers on, quite a different story.

He's a great writeup to help you decide

Does it bang under your ***? That's where most setups hit. Take some exhaust wrap & wrap it around that spot like twice or so. Next, put a clamp on each end. Now, take a larger clamp, cut off a a short piece of heater hose or some kind of big hose, run the clamp through the hose, then clamp that down in the middle of your exhaust wrap. I've been doin that for years and it works great, no fire either. I can take a picture tomorrow

On 2 cars that were doing this with Pacesetter, they got the new mounts on both and it pretty much stopped the banging. ON the higher mile car the floor of the car was modded slightly. IE cut bend replace lol. Now both operate like champs with no bangs. I did use the heater hose suggestion for some time but ill be honest that kinda just riggin it up. Best to fix the problem then band aid it. just my .02

Its not so much that they wear down on a lower mileage car, they are just soft to begin with and with the tighter clearances of longtubes you notice how much the engine is really moving when your exhaust smacks your floorboard.
