Question is there a y pipe available for stock manifolds? How much HP can you gain from this?

My friend just got a 98 Z. He was wanting a y pipe with out cats that hook up to the stock manifolds to get a few extra horses with out spending too much. Does anyone know of a company that makes these? thanks.

SLP makes a direct bolt on aftermarket Y-pipe.

Speed Inc is one of the vendors that sells it, heres a link, just scroll down the page:

Is this even worth it...he was saying it is possible to pick up 15 rwHP with just a y pipe and stock manifolds.

the slp y-pipe does not delete the cats, if you want to delete cats as well, you need cat bypass pipes from mufflex or a y pipe from stainless works. slp's retains the cats

Worth up to 10 HP per SLP http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=31035 :

Y-Pipe, Larger Diameter 2000-02 LS1 Camaro/Firebird Replacement

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SLP's Y-pipe assembly is available for 1998-2002 Camaro/Firebird with V8 engines. Manufactured from 2-1/2" O.D., 304 SS tubing, it is mandrel bent for smooth, clean bends with superior flow characteristics. This Y-pipe assembly is designed to replace the "flat" factory pipe (behind the stock catalytic converters) and bolt to your stock exhaust manifolds. The free flow bends will increase the efficiency of your exhaust system and make up to 10 additional horsepower depending on the application. This assembly comes complete with installation hardware and instructions.

i had cat deletes from mufflex on my '01 and only picked up 7rwhp when i switched to LT headers according to the dyno. car gets louder without cats too, quality of the sound depends on your exhaust. I kept stock exhaust with a cut out, and there was no rasp, actually sounded good.

I would doubt the SLP piece would make much, if any, difference. MAC used to make a replacement y-pipe that you could order with or without cats. It bolted directly to the stock manifolds, but was something like $500.
For that price, you could get a set of Edelbrock headers.

The MAC ORY for 98-99 stock manifold cars is still available for around $210. Bassani also makes one for around $250. Thunder Racing sells the Bassani. The MAC is still on their web site, but I don't know what sponsors sell it.

I was pretty sure the SLP Y flows just as well as the stock oval.

For what it's worth, the 00' Hawk I just bought, the car dynoed 303 RWHP, with the SLP lid and the SLP y pipe it went 320. Which one of the two made the biggest difference I don't know.

i was quite impressed with the difference the MAC ORY made... really opens up the exhaust and you can definately feel the difference in power across the RPM range
