Can I just buy a maf screen from gm and push it back in or am I stuck buying a whole new maf? Reason I ask is because the chick who had the car before me removed it.

I was wondering about this also. Mine is descreened and I am getting ping under high load (3rd gear and up) and high rpm. I have read that descreening can lean the air/fuel mixture out causing this sort of problem. A tune could probably fix it, but couldn't rescreening it fix it also?
I have looked other places to try and diagnose this problem so dont think I am JUST pointing a finger at descreening. This information I have read may be false.

So I don't think so.

I removed the screen off an F-body MAF cleanly
by soaking the front end (removed) face-down
in a dish of paint stripper overnight. Practically
fell out. You could put one in with a little ring of
JB-Weld no problem.
Since the ends swap with just a Torx driver, get
a junkyard one and put the unmolested ends on
if that's what you want; you have the known-
good electrical piece already so junk is fine.
If the chick removed the screen maybe she also
did a little "porting", which would be the bad thing.
Descreened-only, with any fairly straight neck lid,
is a non-problem for F-bodies. Not so for trucks or
'vettes with bent intake plumbing.
