Default Fast Toys 85mm Lid w/ 85mm Maf.. Worth it?

Ok guys...

I just saw this joker.. Man the mods never stop do they?

I am in the middle of my heads/cam and saw the FT 85mm lid..

Sounds like the stock MAF won't work, as it's not 85mm, so an aftermarket MAF must be bought..

Is this mod worth the $$$, what sorta gains are people seeing?

I am trying to decide if I should drop the $350 on this or put the $350 towards the Weiand intake that should be here around march and just stay with my LS1Motorsports lid and stock MAF...

I guess I could always just skip the MAF and go SD tune, but I'm not sure how nice an SD tune would be for a 100% street daily driver type car..

SD tune normally requires 4 seasons. So basically 4 different tunes for different parts of the year if you plan on DD'ing it. I would just stick with the stock sized stuff. You really aren't going to get your planned money's worth out of it like you think. Save you money for a good intake.

Yeh, that's kinda what I thought..

If I can unload some stuff and make the Maf/Lid worth it I might..

I think the money would be better spent on an intake..

Always better spent on an intake. Hell, I bought my first cam with springs and pushrods for $325.00. Cheapest mod I ever did was the cam. As far as performance wise it was top of the line. Until heads of course.

SD in open loop does require different tunes, but SD in closed loop(oxygen sensors and fuel trims enabled) does not require different tunes for different seasons. I run SD closed and never change my tune.

Whether it is worth it depends on your budger. Most of our customers are seeing a solid MPH increase at the track when switching to a Fast Toys 85mm air lid and 85mm MAF at the track. An SD tune would likely yield you even more since it eliminates one more restriction in the intake path.

FTPP - You are exactly right..

My car is not a track car.. It most likely will never see a track.. I am just not interested in track times, etc.. I just like the enjoyment to be had with a decently quick car..

If I come into a lil' extra money, I may pick up your 85mm lid and a Z06 MAF..

I already have the Fast Toys lid along with FTRA. I think the lid is the best lid out there...but unless you are using a 90mm throttle body, I just don't believe there is a reason for you to get one. I would wait until you upgrade your intake before I would purchase this lid.

Yeh, that is sounding like what I will be doing..

I've already got the FTRA, I am planning on picking up the Weiand Intake and a larger TB when it comes out..

I am just about the get the car tuned and thought I'd try and get all the mods I could for this tune.. No biggie.. I can always retune it..

Yeh, it'll be either the FAST or the Weiand.. The Weiand supposedly makes 20hp or so over the FAST.. We'll see..

Yeh, I got some TT2's, so now I fit in perfectly here..

The car is dirrrrrrty, but here are some pics..

I'll have to see results before I'm sold on the Weiand. Thats quite a margin over the fast. One would think if it truly is worth 20 hp that the powerband would be in the higher rpms. Much like the high rpm horsepower gain of a sheet metal intake at the expense of power under the curve.
