Default Head repair or new set or ???

Ok, so the idiot who owned the car before me really managed to screw up a couple of things and I discovered the latest one today. Now, the threads in the #8 cylinder for the spark plug are completely stripped. Other thread for reference if you're really interested is here https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-maintenance-repairs/815456-8-backing-out.html .

I'm definitly on a budget, so if you could not only vote, but also, if you could post the price, it'd be really helpful.

If I get the head fixed, then I'm going to pay someone to do everything including pull and replace the head.

If I get a new set of heads, I'll do the work myself.

I have HP Tuners, so getting something that may need tuning work to run right, and gives more power, but costs a little less (not likely) is not a problem at all (hey, I can still dream about an ideal world).

What kind of heads? Where are you located? I think I have a 241 sitting in my basement...

I have a stock set of heads on a 99SS. I'm now in CA just north of Los Angeles on the coast.

might be a stupid question but cant u just take it to a machine shop and have a helicoil put in it to fix the threads for the spark plug.. i mean yea it might not last long but it might just last long enough till u can save up and get a good set of heads

If you are on a budget, buy a stock head and throw it on there, they are pretty cheap. i would see this as a chance to upgrade. Get a set of ported LS6 heads...

If you want a 241, shoot me a pm. I'll let one go cheap...

Ok, after taking a look through some of the classifieds and other places for some heads... I should be able to get a decent set of used heads for a decent enough price. What's the best casting number available for a 99 LS1 with a stock bore? I might even have enough money left over for some p/p or decking to bump the compression ratio looking at a few of the prices.

I believe it would be the 243's. They have a different combustion chamber cc, so it will affect your compression though. Don't know exactly how much. Have you looked in the parts for sale section here??
