I know that the factory exhaust manifold gasket is a three piece unit my question to those of you that have reused it is did it come apart on you and did you still use it? I am wandering if this is common?
Also I have a set of aftermarket gaskets that are the typical "fiber" material. Has anyone used them? Do you have any leaking problems?
Thanks,
Bart

Did my install this weekend and my stockers were coming apart on the front and rear edges. Glad I had replacement GM's on hand.

Hmm, not good. The outer layer on mine has completely separated. I just wish I knew if it would reseal if I reinstalled my "custom" multi-piece gasket.

Hey Doc, do you have a part number for the gasket?
I would really appreciate it.

I would be interested in hearing if anyone reused them after they tried to fall apart and had them seal....mine came partly apart just like yours and I re-used them but I still have an engine light, am running open headers, and wouldn't know if they were leaking as of yet.....

I spoke with my brother (he deals with similar situations every day) after my last post and told him about my/our situation and he told me that it would seal initially but after a short time it will leak.
He told me what has already been said in this thread, replace them with GM gaskets and forget about it.
Later,
Bart

Sorry I am at work now on lunch break. Could get if for you after work if you still need it then. Header install with emmissions = 4/5 hours. Chasing down exhaust leak / gremlins=more bloody knuckles. $10 GM factory gaskets = priceless.
