Default first impressions with q45 TB

I just got done installing a carb style intake, custom plenum, and an infiniti q45 90mm TB that was off of ebay for 80 bucks.

Initial impressions of q45 TB:
1. OEM quality
2. NO IAC
3. Does have cold start high idle
4. Takes 3.5inch hose
5. Has D end shaft to install ls1 TPS with some minor mods.

Car idles absolutely beautifully without any surging, hunting or stalling. Although i know a lot of this stuff can be tuned out, you're killing two birds with one stone, cheap 90mm TB and idle BS eliminated.

Questions, Comments?

This is a super popular TB in the Import world, I too would also like to know what had to happen to make it work.

too bad its not a bolt on affair for a LSx intake I wouldnt mind having a nissan TB on my GM motor in my nissan car....it would help with the "sleeper" effect.

Naw...I'd say it would be great for custom app's on a budget, but for those that want the best performance no OEM unit out there, even ported as good as can be will equal the flow of the top quality after markets.

I agree completely. They can usually be had for under $80 bucks. Minor modifications vs. $360+ for bolt-on 90mm throttle body. I'll go with the Q45 and port it myself.

Obviously you will have to make an adapter for plastic intake manifolds since you cannot drill/tap plastic, but that's cheap and easy.

i would imagine you could make an adapter plate that has countersunk machine screws to go into the fast manifold, then studs that the TB bolts to.

This is nothing new, that TB has been kicked around here for a few years now. Most guys want the right TB so I dont see it as an issue. Having to "rig" it to work like the correct one is good for someone on a tight budget who deosnt really care, but most would rather have a TB that work properly so honestly its not competition to anyone in here.

Heck if you want to go that route why not go with the El cheapo that already comes with an adapter plate on there? He already did the work for you and its as cheap as it gets.

I've said it a thoursand time and I'll say it again. You get what you pay for in the performance parts world. Look for the cheapst thing you can find and that's what you get. Does it work like the more expensive unit? 98% of time not even close.

The two best TB's I've seen/used are the RevXtreme and the NickWilliams. Honestly I think the RevXtreme is a little better, not to say there was anything wrong with the NW because there wasnt at all. The RevExtreme is a little more money but you can see where the money is spent. Both are very nice units!

just connected the coolant lines for the fast idle warm up. starts at idles at 1000 rpm then backs down to 850 when warm. No IAC too.
