Mandrel Vs. Crush Bends
Ok, so I'm a newbie to the domestic scene. I know that in imports the difference in getting crush bent, and mandrel bent exhaust is noticeable. I plan on getting dual on my WS6, will I be ok with crush bends?

Re: Mandrel Vs. Crush Bends
If you use 3" pipe all the way back, the kink restrictions wont really be that bad, but the mandrel looks so much better. If you go to a good exhaust shop, they will be able to use mandrel bent pieces and weld them together to make a system for you.

Re: Mandrel Vs. Crush Bends
yah...mandrel all the way here too...so you know. most (almost all) shops will have a crush bender. a mandrel machine is really big and expensive and companies like Dr. gas and flowmaster use them...then the little shops buy the mandrel bends from the big guys and then just weld their straight tubes to the mandrel bends.

Its not like you are making so much power you need that 6cfm or anything. Most guys, including myself use 2 1/2" pipe, gee does this reduce flow? More than the crush bend. Yes the Mandrel is better and looks nicer (who the F**k is looking under there anyway?), but it is more expensive and unless your pushing the 3" pipe, you really dont need it.

Re: Mandrel Vs. Crush Bends
Well from what I understand, the crush bends will be even worse for exhaust restriction than just the I.D. decrease created by the crushed area. The turbulence that is caused by the exhaust flowing over the crushes will create a large turbulent pocket that will not only decrease the pipe size, but in theory, drastically slow the exhaust pulses and I would imagine it would have a detrimental effect upon exhuast scavenging.

Re: Mandrel Vs. Crush Bends
Having tried this on a 79 Z28 a few years ago, matchign mufflers, bullets basically, same dia. pipe, and length I lost 9hp from a nicely bent "crushed pipe", which is well within weather tolerance etc.. for a dyno, does the mandrel flow better and smoother Hell yes, but in comparison, its really not as much, on my old car, as hyped up to be.
