cam with stock heads there is at least 500 posts on this but i want my own lol so i have a 2000 a4 bird and want to stay away from heads for a bit but i still want a powerfull daily driven cam whats the best way to go? just throw some opinions at me thanx bra!

tsp 224 will pass smog
tsp 228 won't but is a great daily driver at 390rwhp or so
cam in the low 23x's will make 400rwhp
high 23x's will make about 410rwhp
what bolt ons you have now will DRASTICALLY affect those outcomes

military, so MN resident no smog issues current mods will be hooker cat back, longtubes, ory, ls6 intake , port stock tb or possible fast 90/90, not too worried about budget for the cam alone just want to get by with out heads, and make roughly 400rwhp and some good low end torque, i will probly get a nice stall to match the cam after.

You don’t want to just slap a cam into an automatic car. You will also need to budget in $700 for a stall, and $400 for a rear-end gear set. There is no "best" cam; there are tons of off the shelf cams that have all been proven. I would hit up PatrickG or PerditorZ for a custom grind for your car and what it is you’re looking to do with the car. As far as supporting mod, or bolt-on's, this refers to headers and intake for the post part. Under drive pulleys a "ok" they do free up-to 5hp; if you have one great if not don't waste the money. I like the "El Torro" cam PerditorZ has spec'ed out for several cam only cars.
Budget wise for a cam'd A4: A good cam kit with Your Choice of Camshaft, Comp PRC Spring Kit, and Hardened Chromoly Pushrods runs around $700; Vigilante 9.5" Lock-Up Torque Converter with Billet Cover runs around $720; Motive Gears, Ratech Complete Gear Installation Kit, 2 Quarts of Redline or Royal Purple Synthetic Gear Fluid,1 Bottle GM Limited Slip Differential Additive, TA Performance Aluminum Rear-end Cover with Stud Kit runs around $440; Pacesetter Painted Headers & Off-Road Y-Pipe Combo runs around $380. A little re-cap

TQ Con: $720
Gear Kit: $440
Headers and Ory: $380
Oh, and you will need a GREAT tune with an A4: $600
That runs around $2840 plus labor to install and gaskets, fluids, ect...

Headers and Y pipe should be first or you'll never be happy with your cam numbers/track times.
Do the stall next. Vig, yank, Circle D, FTI (have heard are nice). Love my Yank
Just do not cheap out here with a TCI or fuddle etc.. or it will take the rest of the tranny with it when it craps. Don't forget the tranny cooler and a shift kit is also a good idea. I prefer Trans Go.
Gears are not necessary if you are 3.23 and plan to be primarily a street car.
Lastly for a mainly street/DD a low 230's cam is a very good choice. Good manners, reasonable economy and good bottom end. The donkey dick cams will give more up top but not as much as most people think and then you tend to wanna keep it up there where the power is.
Pred-Z's "E Torro" cams is one of the best out there IMO for a good mannered street/strip cam. It's a 230/230 111LSA XFI/X-ER comp grind.

yea i like chrs1313's numbers and setup hes got a fast car for no heads, but how reliable is somehitng like that a car with a 230/230 is that hard on the stock heads or would it be ok on the stock heads considering it will just be a street car.

i would just stay away from high 600 lifts...like the tq 3 cam

thanks man.. the vigilante 3200 is perfect for my wants and needs since its just a fun street car daily driver. never will see the track. it drives very close to stock since thats what i wanted. know that i am used to it, i probably could step up slighlty bigger. but im happy with it.
