Ported 5.3's vs ported 243's - opinions please!!
Trying to make a decision as to which to put on my 01 Z06, along with a 228R cam. Looking for opinions.
here's what I am thinking of going with:

It definitely seems like a great bang for the buck route to buy these and than sell off my LS6 heads. And the flow numbers on these heads look great. Assuming the low end will be great too. But I'm not 100% sure yet...almost feel guilty going from 243's to 5.3's.

I have the 228r cam myself waiting to go in a 6.0 lq9
Problem is my starting cr is high enough that putting on the 5.3s will shoot my compression too high. What's the chamber size on the prc 2.5s? That leaves me with the option of the PRC stage 1 243s. Even though will raise my compression to 11:1. I'm wondering does PRC make a 317 stage 1 head??? that i can have milled down to 68cc for better 10.6:1
Thanks

street car =5.3s
drag car = 243s
the 5.3s have shorter runners and smaller chambers they are a good high velocity high flowing head and work great in a street car...
the ls6 heads make awseome top end power..you cant go wrong with any ported ls head.....iether head will do just fine..

ported 243s all the way..your low end won't suffer compared to the 5.3s..stock volumes for the 5.3 is around 200cc,the 243 is around 210cc..
once ported, the runner volumes are very similar between both heads, depending on who does the porting...so the loss of velocity on the LS6 head is just a myth..
the combustion chamber is more efficient, and the short side radius is better on the 243..why step backwards to a 5.3 truck head?
and before i get flamed,i ran ported 5.3 heads a few yrs ago on my old Z/28..

thanks for the post 66 duece, but for me its about bang for the buck. If the new PRC 5.3 stage 2.5's are going to add ~ 30 rwhp over my LS6 heads than I am all about that. My engine is out for warranty work so their is no labor charge in this for me. I can buy the PRC's for about $900 new ( I already bought a TSP 228r cam kit) and sell my LS6 heads for at least $400...which is only costing me ~$500 for the swap. Not sure if it's worth the extra $300-$400 for ported Ls6 heads...

There is a couple threads with someone saying his friend made 430whp with ported 241s by Advanced Inductions (i think thats who it was) on a stock cam.
Hes got dyno graphs and answers peoples questions although even with all that its still hard to believe. If nothing else its something to think about and Id like to see people who know way more than me comment on the viability of it.

Heres the thread link, make your own decision on it.
Sorry for the thread hijack. Id vote for PRC 2.5 5.3s over the 243, personal opinion only, nothing concrete to back it up.

I like my 5.3's. I make pretty good power considering my pacesetter headers and 9 inch rear end.
TFS is pretty much the only other head Id consider switching to, but I already have 5.3's.
Call TSP. I told them what I wanted and they put a setup together for me. I told them I wanted a very streetable 420, and thats what I have.

I also went with 5.3s and a custom cam w/ supporting mods from TSP. Both Matt and John were very helpful and answered all my questions. +1 for their customer service.
