Default GM carb manifold or edelbrock?

I am doing a carb setup and was wondering if anyone has experience with either the GM or Edelbrock for the LS1. Any input is appreciated!

I've got a Victor Jr on my car. I would recommend painting or powder coating it before you put it on. Fits good and uses stock LS1 style intake gaskets

It probably depends on your engine: displacement, head potential, rpm, etc. which determines the manifold choice.

They all need internal work to do their best job. Ask your head/manifold person which he prefers. I wouldn't let original manifold cost make the decision one way or another. The modification could cost more than the manifold.

Gm intake has a better casting on the inside the edelbrock you usually have to do some minor porting to get some of the shitty casting out. Wish I had some pictures but either manifold works great. I think the edelbrock has bigger ports but not by much it's been a wile though.

i run the vic jr and cant complain 2 much you need at least a 1" spacer because it has very little plentum volume but after port matching and smoothing it is not a bad piece

i ran a gm manifold after waiting almost 8 months for edelbrock to re-start casting some more victor jnrs. the batches they made were all having issues and couldnt be released at the time, so i gave up waiting. the gm fits very well and works fine.

i have the vic jr intake, it cracked on the lower side of the port, looks like where they cut out for the tab on the gasket, #1 & 3, weak point-others had the same problem-i emailed Edelbrock, said to send pics, which i did, never heard back, so i had it repaired, left a little more weld where it broke, and trimmed the valley cover a little
one thing i found, the felpro gaskets(orange) are 1/2 the price of GM's gaskets, but dont hold up, they come apart, so no bargain, the GM gaskets didnt fail

i've also had the felpro gaskets fall to bits when i lifted the inlet manifold off once.

Thanks guys, good info. I have 243 (z06) heads, comp cam .581 lift, Diamond forged pistons, and will be using long tube headers. I am running a ford 9 rear end with 4.33 gears and a tremec tko600 tranny so rpm's shouldn't be a prob lol. I am pondering a little shot of NOS but haven't made my mind up yet. This motor is going into the truck in my "garage" here on the forum. Its pretty heavy, its a 1985 chevy C10 short/wide bed pickup. If I got the vic jr. port matched to my 243 heads and went to a set of AFR's later would i need to get it done again?

Did that break while it was on the motor or what?

Edelbrock supposedly fixed the problem. I bought my intake back in Jan 2008 and have had an issue with it

My first Victor JR had the O-ring recesses machined off center and they cracked but summit sent me one the next day and there will be no problems with it from what i can tell. The GMMP intake is about a 1/2" shorter from what i understand. I wouldnt see a need ot go GMMP unless i were going L92/LS7 heads, since they are the only ones out yet that fit rectangle port heads.

Edelbrock did fix the O-ring problem. I have a thread in both the Gen 3 section and conversion and hybrids section about the orings cracking with pictures.
