Default Headers 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 for stock Camaro?

I am looking at purchasing some headers for my stock LS1 and wanted to know what would be the best pick. Its probably going to be between Pacesetter or Hooker (either one better?) and I dont know whether to do 1 3/4 or 1 7/8. Let me know what you think is good for me. Also I will be doing no egr and off road y. Thanks.

1 7/8", no question. I would seriously look at American Racing Headers vs. the brands you list. They cost more, but you REALLY get what you pay for.

You won't lose anything in the low or mid-range.

The car is a street car. So does anyone know for sure if I will lose low and mid range torque with the 1 7/8? Thanks for the info

You will probably lose some torque downlow but not enough to be a big deal with the 7/8. If you don't plan on doing anything more then bolt ons go with the 3/4, if you might add a blower, spray, or stroker go 7/8.

+1 It really depends on your future plans. Bolt ons, the smaller pipes are great, but if you plan on making even more power later, do yourself a favor, and get the 1 7/8. Once you start getting into Heads/cams, and even more displacement or power adders, the bigger tubes will come in handy.

Go do some searches in the dyno section, there are many threads showing the difference between the two. If you buy the 1 3/4" you will wish you got the 1 7/8"........

Your money, your call.

Wow I didnt know this stuff so for mid size cam only or even head n cam cars u guys are recommending 17/8. I thought for bolt ons cam only or head n cam 13/4 would be good and the 17/8 comes in for the bigger cube engines

Yes, you'll loose some trq, but gain a few ponies 4000rpm onwards.
So if max power your goal, 17/8 if mostly street 1 3/4 is better IMO.

What are the future plans for the car, are you sure you'll stop at bolt on parts, "maybe" a cam. Really what I would do is when your ready to do your build what ever it is either a H/C package or H/C w/ power adder you should let your mechanic inform you, come in here ask (ie "these are my plans now and I need exhaust advice...") but every one here is giving you advice on things that you might do or are probably going to do. If you want a good rumble, have the California cats removed, get an X pipe and some type of over axle (B&B or such), there is your rumble.

I'm going to search for 1 7/8 gains for LT's on a 346. I'd like to see some dyno sheets with this subject. I don't think it's worth the money to swap if you already have 1 3/4 primaries. We'll see. If any one has links please post them. Thanks.

It has mixed opinions. They used different brands for the 1 3/4 and 1 7/8.... It does show that tsp makes better headers than pacesetter though

Katech's 640HP LS7 Camaro runs mid 10s, all engine, stupid big cam, killer ported heads, 7,000 RPM, etc...
using TPIS 1-3/4" F-body 'race' headers.

I usually like bigger headers, and switched from 1-3/4" TSPs to 1-7/8" Kooks on my C5Z. I didn't loose anything, but didn't gain anything (I also like upper RPM HP more than low-end torque).
Unless you have very specific mods planned, with very specific parts in mind, you will probably not need the extra 1/8" for a mild, street driven, naturally aspirated F-body.
I would consider a newer design header (maybe not Pacesetter), that fits well (don't know if 1-7/8" are more difficult?), and doesn't cost $1,000. I agree, not all headers are "created equal", but I would not spend too much time just deciding on SIZE.
I want to get some headers on my Formula, and have been watching for reasonably priced used QTPs, Hookers, and others. I may consider those Edelbrock 1-3/4" stepped to 1-7/8", because I like their design and their price. I will probably only go 1-7/8" if there is a smokin' hot deal on some used, popular brand headers in the PARTS F/S forum.

You can always sell the smaller ones if you want to go bigger and recover some of the cost.
