Default Cracked motor mount holes on Block?

A friend of mine bought a used ls1 out of an 04 GTO, when we went to mount it up today we noticed that 3 of the bolt holes where you mount the motor mounts too are cracked, one is minor but the other two look pretty bad

Can this be safely repaired or is he shopping for a new motor?

I'll post a few pics later

I dont know if I would trust jb weld on motor mount bolts you know. Just as a safety issue.

i think a heli-coil would be strong enough for that.

Default Helicoil

I try drilling as deeper and put the helicoil into the non cracked area.

I'm sure it could be welded but you might have to disassemble it and then it would probably have to be trued back up, ie line bored, honed, and decked. Lots a $$

3 cheers for aluminum and over torqueing.

Seriously, that sucks. 2 of them there is only about half the threads left and Im not sure if a heli coil would have enough to stay in there, you would think it would need at least half a hole. If it were mine, Id find someone to weld them back up as best as possible.

My $0.02

yea, I think what the plan is, to have an experienced aluminum welder, weld the damage areas. Fill the bolt holes with JB weld (or even liquid aluminum), let it dry completely, then tap and re-thread the holes...

It's either that, or dish out another 700.00 and rebuild the entire engine.
