Cam in stock motor?

Cam in stock motor?
I have read old threads until I have confused myself even more I think. I have a stock motor 01 z28 and I am considering a cam for it. I would love to have heads too but I just can't swing it now. I currently have mac headers w/ full magnaflow, lid, 3:42 gears, 3400 stall. My car went a 12.82 on this set up with street tires. I am going to order a circle d 4c stall though. I am just wondering what cam you guys would recommend for my set up with stock heads and what valve springs you would use with it. My car is not a daily driver or a track car, it is only driven on occasion and has only saw the track two passes since I bought it a year ago. I would just like a good sound and strong pull. I just like the light to light action beside the mustang on sat night. LOL. Thanks for any input!

A custom cam!
But, if you looking to get an off the shelf cam there are alot out there.
Thunder Racing, Texas Speed, Tick, Futra, Vengeance, and others all have proven cams.
I like the sound of GM's ASA cam and it's not some donkey dick can either and it's easy on the valve train.

Not true at all. My cam is a 231/232 .612/.588 111+4 and will respond very well once I add aftermarket heads. The MS4 cam which you suggested doesn't sound like it would meet his needs at all. Something in the high 220's low 230's would be a great cam for what he is looking for.

I understand what you are saying. He could still have a cam spec'd right now for his goals with a future head swap in mind also. It all depends on what he is looking for right now, then also what he is looking for later on down the road. I knew that I wanted to evetually get a set of aftermarket heads when I had my cam spec'd.

I appreciate all of the feedback. I would like to add some good heads later on but that could be a while down the road. I am just looking for the best cam for my current application right now. I am putting in a 4c circle d or a ss3600 yank stall with another new built tranny so I should have a good stall and trans to back up most of the cams that suit my application I hope anyway. I haven't ordered my stall yet obviously but I plan to hopefully tomorrow. Is there anything you guys want to add regarding my stall for the cam's you have pointed out?
Thanks again

spend the money on a built tranny and a rearend, then spend the money for cam and heads!!!!!!!!! makes no sense to make power then have your tranny take a dump.. build the tranny and rearend to be able to withstand the power and abuse.

What kind of HP and TQ gains are you gonna get from that GM cam with an otherwise stock LS1? I am also interested in a cam swap and do not know much about them. I have no intentions of any sort of head work at this time.
Red Rocket, do you do most of your work yourself or do you have a speed shop that helps you out? I am from Marshalltown area and would love to find someone/somewhere that could help me with my car.
Thanks guys.
