Arrow Blowing Oil Out The Tail Pipes.. VIDS

So ever since I had my cam installed back in 2/2007 (10k miles ago) pretty much since day one my car blows oil... At least that's what I think is coming out of my tail pipes.. either that or it's fuel....

When at idle, my car smokes.. smells like fuel sort of looks like oil.. I have an oil catch can on my car... When I drain it, there is less than 10ml of oil in there....... But when I get gas which isnt frequesntly bc my car is not a DD I always check my oil level and I'm anywhere from 1/2 qt to 1 qt low of oil

When I did the cam I had new valve seals put in... I highly doubt it's rings.. I hope it isn't...

I have read a tech article that I found here in the internal section, that cams with a higher lift of .550" wears the stock rockers down faster?? Any truth.. If need be I can find that article again.. So I think oil is seeping past my rockers???

here are some vids from when it got dynoed last May 2009... this is what the smoke looks like

I see smoke, but not oil. I expected to see puddles, splatter or something. So far, just fumes. Is it using oil more than a quart per change?

I just changed my oil last week.. Last time I changed it was 5/2009.. Last season I only put on 1200 miles on the car. switched from M1 syn 5w30 to Pennzoil Platinum syn 10w30.....

Pretty much every time I get gas I have to add some oil... But at idle you can see smoke... Now what kind of smoke I have no idea.. If you look close at the last vid, look at the background (lighter color) you can see a contrast.. The smoke in that vid a blue tint to it. Atleas in my eyes it does

A leakdown test should help you figure it out... That would be my next step....

Holy **** man.......you shouldn't leave oil in your engine that long. It has an expiration date, ain't no way its good after sitting for 1 year, especiaily after its got a bunch of miles on it.

Do you leave a little trail of white-blue smoke when you nail it (WOT) from say a 40-50mph roll? If you do you most likely have bad valve seal(s).

Constant white-blue smoke usually means rings....or a broken piece of a ring.

A bunch of miles?? The oil had 1,200 miles on it.. let me ask you this.. Do you actually know how long the oil has been sitting on the shelf before you got to it?????

No, no trail.. Maybe a little black smoke.. from running a little rich

Hmmm. My nitrous Z did that same thing. It was from loose rings though. Lots of cars smoke some on the rollers. You just dont see it on the road because you are actually moving. I think you might just be a lil' paranoid. Try a thicker weight and see what happens. You may just be getting a little blow by.

the .550 thing and the rockers isnt really true. I would argue the point that the weak point is and always will be the uncaged stock trunions with any cam.

Hey Jordan... Long time no talk.. What weight oil do you recommend? I just switched from M1 5w30 to Pennzoil Platinum 10w30

But Im telling you at idle there is some smoke.. Maybe I will have to get a vid.. And why everytime when I get gas do I need to add some oil?

I was going to tell ya 10w30-40, but I doubt that would make a difference here. I ran some 50 weight and mine stopped smoking. Are you sure that you really need to add oil every fill up? I start with 6qts on all my LS1's. No catch cans. I just use an LS6 style pcv setup and let it ride. Never really pulled a bunch of oil into the intakes, but it did see some. You aren't running a breather and a catch can are you?

What kind of tune are you running? AFR?

Well not every fill up.. I use about 6.25 qts of oil. I use a bigger Mobil 1 (m1-206) oil filter. I'm just running a catch can

What do you mean what kind of tune?

If any of your plugs have oil on them, change the valve seals on that cylinder again.

My heads/cam engine did that, had a can but still smelt like a bumper boat, would poop when i got on it. Engine wound up just kind of stopping, so im doing a new build. I assumed it was the rings, but it looks like there were some compound problems; go figure, they all had to do with oiling issues. Only #6 had an oily plug, but it definitely was oil.

The car had a melling pump, but there was still something going wrong. Let us know what you find out.

usually oil burnoff is black and fuel is white. in the last video you see the most fuel when you come off of it and it is winding down. you also here the car backfire a few times shortly after you see a bunch of white smoketo me this says it is un burnt fuel going through your exhaust. this is most common with offroad y-pipes.

X-2, A leak down test will tell you if your piston rings are sealing, or your having "blow by" which is oil getting past the rings. $.02

Check your plugs and do a leakdown test and report back. That will help a ton. Try to take pictures of your plugs if you see something funny.
