Default New Dyno Numbers for TSP 383 Stroker

Well finally got all my nitrous kinks worked out and got dynoed. On motor the car put down 429rwhp/503rwtq and on the TNT 150 it was 557rwhp/667rwtq. The car is an A4 with a 3500 TCI verter, QTP 1 7/8 merge collector headers w/ qtp dual cutout y-pipe, all the other bolt ons as well. Now I am pleased with the numbers, just wanted to compare to some other 383's and see where it stands. I was looking for 6xxhp but oh well, considering a cam swap and higher bottle pressure to get there, it was ran at 1000psi. A/F was a nice 13 on motor and hovered around 11.5 for a while on the spray and then dropped richer in the upper rpms. I am running a cam very similar to the MTI R1 cam. Any cam recommendation would be appreciated. I will get the graph scanned tonight.

I'd have to see the dyno graph, but that seems a little low. Are you running a 12-bolt? What gears? Dyno numbers aren't everything, but my heads/cam put out 425rwhp, with obviously way less torque. Maybe it's the 'vertor? I love the TNT kit though...

were the pulls made with the converter locked or unlocked?

i'm not familiar with the MTI R1 cam, can you give us the specs of your cam?

the hp seems a little low but the torque is outstanding. of course, i'd have to see the graph to really make a good judgement.

Locked those numbers would go up to around 450-460RWHP. Not bad at all

putting out over 500ftlbs is low? Keep in mind hp is derived from tq so if you tq #'s are there especially with a stroker or big bore motor who cares?

Oh, I'm not disappointed at all, just wanna make sure I am getting all out of the setup. Oh and the cam specs for the R1 is 232/236 575/578 114lsa. Convertor was unlocked, I didin't know if locking it up was a good idea with the stroker torque, thought it might screw it up. I have stock 10 bolt, LS6 CNC heads from S&D, upgraded valves, LS6 intake, Walbro intank. 3.73 gears

Yah, but won't the torque numbers drop with a locked 'vertor? Even 440rwhp doesn't seem all that impressive for a stroker. No offense of course, but I'd like to see the graph before passing judgment.

That is some pretty "small" cam specs for a stroker. When I do my 38x engine I'm going to run my TSP231/237 cam in it for a while.. before going bigger. What heads are you running and also the Compression ratio of your engine.
THanks

I believe compression is just over 11:1. I was going to do the 231/237 cam but they had not arrived yet, I was suppose to have the first one. I was thinking the cam could be bigger as well, but how much bigger?

You'll easily pick up 20 HP by locking the verter but your RWTQ will drop about 40RW...

I'd say your right at 450RWHP/465RWTQ on motor....

THATS STOUT......
Your car is gonna fly...............

I pulled a 10.98@124 out of it at the Thunder Shootout, it weighs 3760 with the convo pros and 28" slicks and skinnies, and the cage with me in it.

You are right in the ball park. Nice numbers with an unlocked converter. Your hp should be around 450 torque is hard to guess since your converter will spike up when it flashes. My numbers were 457/431 @ 12.5 A/F. My FLP Y pipe is a big restriction 2 - 2 1/2 pipes going into a 2 1/2 collector then into a 3" pipe. My dyno graph just flat lined for 1300 rpm from 5500- 6800 from it. People may say 383 Stroker numbers are low but if you overlay the graph with a H/C package, there is no comparison...

That's really the KEY observation to make. So many are hung up on PEAK #s.

no kidding!!!! I've got a graph in front of me with a 463 hp H/C 346 vs a 473 hp 383 Stroker and there's no comparision. then I have another 427 to lay over that.

I'll post is asap, but I have to wait till about 9PM CST.

I have a overlay of my TSP 383 and a H/C car that both made 453 rwhp on the same dyno. The only simalarity is the peak number above 6000rpm's. There's a wide gap of about 25rwhp and 30-50rwtq through most of the powerband. I didn't post the sheet because it has the vendors name on the dyno run, and they have been nothing but dignified with their posts on this site.

I wish it would stop raining here so I can get some track times...
