Misfires, Backfires and Bucks after Cam install
Just like the title says the car misfires, backfires and bucks under load and under 3000 rpm. During the first start up the car fired and idled/ ran great. The car also seems to run great whether under load or not at higher rpm ( havent taken it above probably 4500 yet) and seems to be chugging gas. Im thinking this will all be taken care of in the tune, but just wanted some other opinions. Thanks.

oh and here is a few more details on the car. Its a cam only setup with all bolt ons minus elec water pump. I had the car previously tuned in open loop and i plan on keeping it that way and going speed density. There is no emissions related equipment on the car so that eleminates them problems. Although i did throw a maf code (p0101), but cleaned the maf and it seems to have gone away.

PREVIOUSLY TUNED is the key. . . after a cam, it's probably best to get a retune...
Did you use a similar cam to what it was tuned for? was it stock cam previously? Whats the lift/duration on the newly installed cam? What kind of power DID it put down after your tune? Did you take it to the track previously and how did it perform?

oh no i didnt and i checked for vacuum leaks... as far as i can tell there are none. The car fired and ran great at first... i even took it for a put right after and it ran fairly well for a untuned big cam car, but now it seems like its getting worse. Is it possible i fouled the plugs already? Im going to pull one and look tomorrow

Mine did this once and it ended up being the MAF. I even tried to unplug it and that didn't work. My car was already tuned for the cam. It just acted up one morning out of the blue. I had to replace the MAF and it fixed it. I even tried cleaning the old one with a cutip and rubbing alcohol.

That cam is a MASSIVE difference over stock. A tune will fix ALL of that as your VE table is going to be a fair deal off. Your fuel trims are probably resetting once they get to high or low which makes it run better then worse and back again.
Granted there could still be a vacuum leak somewhere as there is always something that "could" be wrong. With heads and a 228r cam I went from 350whp and horrible street manners to 420whp and great street manners.
