Default does tsp make crap cams ?

Hello, I have a 04 gto, m6 with headers... I daily drive my car 80 miles a day. I want to put a great DD cam in there along the lines of the 228r or the torquer v2 cam. I talked to the local respected tuner around here and he said that tsp's cam kits were junk and just some thrown together crap ( cam kits ) He also said the pushrods in the tsp kits were to long and had to much lifter pre load and I needed to install the cam and then measure the pushrod length ( geometry ) and THEN order the pushrods needed. I kinda figured that there are alot of people running TSP cam kits and doesn't seem like alot of people blowing up there cars running there stuff. What do ya'll think ???

Very untrue IMO. Alot of people order cams from Texas Speed and i havnt seen many problems if any. There cams make alotta great power when tuned correctly. As far as the pushrods, you select what pushrods you want when you order so if they were the wrong length it was the fault of whomever ordered them.

Im willing to bet these "blown up engines" come from people that dont degree their cams or shim their springs. I just installed and degreed a 228r cam in my 04 ls1 and it was only half a degree off.

TSP is good, but it is proper installation technique to verify proper preload and pushrod length. This varies from engine to engine even with identical parts.

your friend is really not misleading you and is in fact somewhat correct although i wouldn't call TSP stuff junk there are definitely better optimized cams for certain heads and the push rods are okay for what they are but there are better to be had for even stock heads. What TSP offers you is somewhat of value and performance that was dyno tested so you know what your getting ahead of time power wise.

my tsp cam lobes started to come apart, possibly a bad core, however just found out my prc ls6 heads had different lenght valve guides installed, now i have valve guide wear, rocker wear, and valve wear. You can feel the play in the valve. I thought it was the motor eating oil, turns out it was the heads. i will never buy anything from tsp again

most ppl that do head put after market guides in that are bronze and they do wear. if the rockers are not set up in the center of the valve.
