Default Who wants to compare 226/230 to 230/234

I'm considering two different cams with the following specs:

Code:
226/230 111+0 230/234 113+4
IVO 2 6
IVC 44 44
EVO 46 54
EVC 4 0
This would be going into my weekend cruiser that sees ~2,000 miles a year and rarely sees the the dragstrip. It's an '01 SS M6 still with 3.42's, plus an SLP lid, P&P TB and GMMG cat-back. I would get 1 3/4" LT's before the cam swap, probably QTP or ARH.

Plan would be to run cam only for a while, then examine the funds later to see if I could swing a set of AFR 210's, or if I would be working with some 243 heads. Either one would be milled to 61cc and run with .040" cometic gaskets for ideal quench and compression.

I am not interested in spending money on the rear end - even though 4.10's would be nice - as I can't justify the expense of a 12-bolt or 9 inch for how I use it. No sense pissing away $$$ on the stock 10-bolt when I could buy heads.

I personally like the VE's of the 226 cam better for mid-range torque (looking at the EVO), but I am curious what others have to say....

I'm still new to LS engine and the specs are slightly different but I just installed a Comp 224/230 cam (.581/.592 lift, 114 LSA)in my WS6 and hope the latest GMHTP is right. I chose the cam cause I didnt want to change my converter or gearing but wanted some more power with a little more rpm. According to the article (April 2011 issue) on an engine dyno that cam made 463.2 hp and 432.6 tq, a gain of 45.2 hp and 10.6 tq over the stocker with torque peak at the same 4800 rpm and hp peak was 300 higher at 6300 plus it pulled up to 6900 - still making 441.1 at 6900. They also tested a 231/239 cam (.617/.624 lift, 113 LSA) and the difference was +10.4 hp and +1.5 tq over the 224/230 when both were tested with FAST intakes.

Hope that helps

I just put a 227(.614")/231(.617") 111lsa +2 CompCam in my car (my first cam)along with AFR 205's running stock compression, and bbk LT headers, also stock 3.42 gears, but it would really like at least 3.73 gears.
I would say go with the 226/230 111lsa for a cruizer w/stock gears.

I like the 226 230 cam on the 111. Its the same cam I specced out for myself for a weekend cruiser. I would advance it a couple of degrees though for added compression and more torque. I like it better due to the longer power stroke and decent amount of overlap. You really can't go wrong with it.

If that is the cam I think it is, it's been around a while. Still a good setup though, touches all the right valve events.

I looked for the article online but I could not find it. I'm hoping that the numbers (463/432) were without the FAST.

I would say go with the 226/230 111lsa for a cruizer w/stock gears.
I like the 228/232 cams too - at one time I thought I would get one ground on LSK lobes at 110 LSA, ala Pat G's torque cam with an extra boost up top. I think some milder lobes that aren't as maintenance intensive will suffice.

If it came to gears, I can't see wasting time with 3.73's - 4.10's or 4.30's would really be the way to go with the overdrive(s) that we have in these cars.

Interesting considering you have a 226/230 - care to elaborate? What do you like about your setup, and would you have gone to the 230/234 yourself?

Thanks again guys!!!

Those numbers were with an LS6 intake and stock throttle body, it was the only cam they tested that way aside from stock. They switched to a FAST 102 intake and throttle body and it picked up 12 hp to 475.
