Default Patriot Gold dual valvesprings good? Anybody have them and measure installed height?

Im looking for more info on the patriot gold dual valve springs. I read a post of one guy not getting the right installed height when he put them on. Wanting to know if anybody else measured them and got the wrong installed height? Or if you have them and have any info you would like to add about them I would appreciate it.

Are you saying that would be the fault of the spring? Because it wouldn't.

Just about every dual spring I've seen needed atleast a little shiming to get the right seat pressure

Or of the locks or retainer fault. W/E the case I seen where when installed they are not the correct height

Wrong again. It is up to the installer to set the installed height on any valve spring.

You have to set the installed hight when installing the springs by shimming the spring seat up. I am running them and have had no problems with them.

Yes I am saying installing them with nothing, but the parts provided. Seats, retainers, springs and locks. Will you have the correct installed height?

OP...are you referencing a thread where the guy couldn't get enough
installed height, and ultimately ended up with excessive spring pressure ???

Correct for what. What is correct for one cam may not be correct for another. You may want more or less spring pressure or want to run the spring closer or further away from coil bind. It can depend on if a valve job has been done on the heads and how the seats were cut. Bottom line is the correct way to install springs is to decide what the installed height should be and install them to that height.

The springs are saposed to have a 1.8 installed height and the guy measured and got 1.75. Would I need to measure my installed height? I would be using the patriot gold dual springs good to .650 lift with a tr224 cam. I was under the impression when you bought the valvespring kit that they should be at the right height already.

That just means that when installed at 1.8" you can run them to .650" lift without coil bind. That doesn't mean they have to be run at that installed height. Patriot specs a spring pressure at that height also. Do you know what spring pressure is required for a TR224 cam? Didn't think so. That cam only has .563 lift. Trust me, that cam won't care if your Patriot Gold springs are at 1.8 or 1.75 installed height.

Thanks a ton for the info. That is exactly what I was wanting to know. I was not trying to argue with you at all. So with that combo with the 224 cam good to .563 lift on the .650 dual springs. Should I even check the installed height on it? Or will I be good no matter what?

since your running a lower lift than the springs max, I'd set them up for seat pressure and forget about installed height. If you run them too loose with low seat pressure the valve can float or bounce against the seat more and neither is a good thing...plus running low lift your springs will actually last longer if you run a slightly higher seat pressure

Just install them as is. They will be fine. They will have more than enough spring pressure than that cam need and will give you the safety of a double spring even though you rarely hear of one breakin. And just because they installed at 1.75" on someone else's heads doesn't mean they will install at that height on yours. I would bet over 95% of springs of all brands that get installed aren't checked for height. I run them on my 99 with a 224/228 .581/.588 XER lobe cam.

If I was forced to run them, I'd check installed height for sure and NEVER assume an installed height with that kit!
