Default Adding G5X3, port matched LSX, EWP, & more to my TEA heads! 470rwhp?

Doing some top end work as we speak!
  • Fixing 7 bent int/ex valves
  • Swapping out TR230 cam for a much larger G5X3 cam (flycut of .065).....I've "heard" it's a 239/245 .62x/62x but who knows.
  • Adding port matched (to TB and heads) 78mm LSX intake
  • Adding Meziere EWP
  • Adding Crane 832 dual springs to cure my valve float and handle the bigger cam (good to .650 lift)
  • Adding comp R lifters for safety
  • Adding HAL R-Series shocks in favor of the stock shocks/springs that I've had for 42K miles so I can actually transfer some weight at the track.
I dynoed 440rwhp/401rwtq with the TR230 and stg. 2 heads before all the new mods you see above, and I had 3.73 gears/12 bolt at the time.

Now with 4.10 gears in the 12er, I'm hoping to see close to 470rwhp/420rwtq on my old *** heads ...I think somewhere in the 460's is probably more realistic.

Wish me luck!!! I should have dyno #'s by the end of the week. All the mods are finished except for the valves being replaced. I'll keep you all updated

Thanks to Xtreme Motorsports, LG Motorsports, Thunder Racing, and TEA for all their help. All top notch companies!

Hey Lou, did you guys port match the intake to the heads? Was the TPIS intake port matched to the heads?

Great job guys, keep pushing that envelope!....really makes me rethink about going to a 90mm setup now

so where are all the haters now who complained this intake was crap?
I found this in Lou's 503hp thread. What do you think is stopping you from hitting the 500 mark? With the stuff you have coming I can only think the heavy duty rearend combined with the 4.10 ratio would be the limiting factor. Either way I hope your 470 is a conservative estimate, good luck.

Good luck,I am thinking you could see 50 rwhp easy.My unlocked auto made 446 when the FLP Y pipe was dropped,I want to get a FAST intake on mine with a 90mm TB,should be good for 15 rwhp.

Keep us updated, hope to see you real close to 500 rwhp.

IMO the following factors will keep me from hitting the 500rwhp mark....

1. Only 10.8:1 compression (I'm leaving a little hp on the table there)
2. No short belt (which Lou had on the car that dynoed 503rwhp)
3. The 78mm intake/TB seems to be the bottleneck with these bigger heads/cam cars.....
4. I'm running 1.5yr old Stg. 2 5.3L heads, not the best LS6 heads that are out (10rwhp-15rwhp left on the table).....(TEA, if you want to send me some Massengale LS6 heads you have my #)
5. My dyno graph will have full smoothing ....just kidding LG
6. 12 bolt w. 4.10 gears

sounds like it's gonna be a killer set up. my guess is that you'll get around 470, maybe even more. can't wait to see what you pick up

Well, I don’t think you’re going to get 20 rwtq from just an intake/cam swap. If anything bigger cams will give you less torque and the 4.10’s will rob you a bit of torque as well. I think you’ll pick up maybe 5-10 rwtq and 15-20rwhp max. EWP’s from what I’ve seen generally pickup 3-8 rwhp, and then another 10-15 from the intake/cam. As you said yourself, your heads are pretty old and to get the most potential out of a larger cam you’d need better/bigger head and a 90mm TB. So I’ll guess ~455rwhp and 405-410 rwtq.

You should go with the 90 mm intake not the 78mm. That cam needs to breathe.

I forgot to mention YT rockers too

Verbs' ricer math:

I figured 5rwhp/5rwtq for YT's
5rwhp/5rwtq for EWP
10rwhp/10rwtq for intake
-5rwhp/-5rwtq for 4.10 gears
15rwhp/5rwtq for cam swap

That's where I came up w/ my figures ....a 30rwhp gain and 20rwtq gain

The short belt doesn't bypass the water pump.
