Default P-to-V with old Texas Speed 231/237 .598/.595, stock pistons

Picking up a collection of parts, one of the things is an old texas speed cam, 231/237 .598/.595 deal. Can anyone with stock pistons attest to piston to valve clearance, did you have to notch stock pistons? Sticking a set of ported 806 heads and this cam on an LQ4 short block for cheap fun, hoping the little bit of dish in the LQ4 pistons will be my savior..

thanks in advance,

I had this cam back in like 2004...Its actually the original Magic Stick cam...HAHAHA! I had it in my 98 camaro z28...stock motor, with boltons...you will be fine. I was turning it 6700 rpms with stock shortblock and flat top pistons. Never had an issue.

Just make sure that your 806 heads aren't decked & that stock thickness head gaskets are used.

Always check Piston To Valve Clearence. Any good cam guy or sponsor will tell you that.

If you dont, then you take that risk and if your wrong on the size, its on you.

thanks... I picked up a solid lifter to use to check clearance, just wanting to know ahead of time if I've surely got extra work on my hands. Sounds like I'll be good, but will check to be sure.

I kinda chuckle every time I see this cam & the reference to "old" or described as "WAAAY back in 04, 05 or 06." I use it in my back-up LS6 block. It's a great cam. Realizing that there are far more choices in cams now, referring to this cam as "old" is just funny to me. My comment is related to the several times "old" has been used to describe it. Am not singling out one person or another.

No offense taken...youre right, it seemed like I meant it like that...I was actually just typing as I was thinking back to when it was I actually had it...I really liked this cam. Wish I had kept it. I pulled it and went with a comp 238/240 XER, then built a forged heads/cam motor and went even bigger to a TREX V2, and wished I had never sold the TSP 231/237. I was/is a good cam.

In this section, select the rectangular blue box that says "new thread" @ top left hand corner of the section.

I referred to it as old because in another thread discussing it the post said that TSP no longer grinds it and in fact John @ TSP couldn't even produce the shelf specs/cam card for one. So I guess maybe I could have called it their obsolete cam instead???

Yah, wasn't trying to single anyone out. Have seen it described that way dozens of times. I just chuckle about many things that are considered old these days. To me, a small block Chevy 350 is old, not an LS spec'd cam.

Anyway, the 231/237 is an "oldie" but goodie. We are fortuneate to have it. You're gonna luv it.

just to follow-up, finally got things situated and measured. Checked few times, took cuts in various places and angles. Approximately a country mile of clearance. Checked with solid roller lifter.

(.030 feeler gauge for reference)
