Ive been checking out some of your cams,I am looking at the Street Heat Stage 1 or the Emissions friendly cam...which you should name The Hippie Stick!!
In your opinion which would be better for stock 243s? I am wanting a close as possible stock idle and good power.

I recommend a racetronix pump kit with hotwire harness and 42lb injectors though.
Thanks.....adding to the list

Yep! It is a 225/230 .612"/.609" 114+4 camshaft which will do exactly what you're wanting.

hey Martin ive been on this thread all day cause im shopping for a cam and this thread is on fire with some great cams.hopefully you dont mind lending me some info.i am building my 01 suburban 1500 4x4.i have an 05 6.o lq4 im installing.i plan on milling the 317 heads .030 to .035 to raise my compression.i have longtubes,42lb injectors, ported tb,TB converter, rebuilt 4l60e with hd2 kits and servos.the truck has 373 also.i drive it daily.but i drive it hard its lowered and i have 20 inch rims also.im hoping that one of your cams will wake this thing up.i had purchased a z06 came but have sold it cause didnt think i would be happy with it.i was looking at a comp cam xr282hr-12.not sure if that will work in such a heavy truck then i saw this thread and im thinking one of your cams mite work even with all the weight of the suburban.also i dont want a big stall just in case i still tow with the truck so im tryingg to get things to work with this converter.and if a port and polish will add a worthwhile increase let me know ill jump on that also.sorry so long but got excited over this thread and im trying to get this motor in the truck.thank you very much VJ

VJ,

No problem at all man! I love helping guys that are passionate about their cars! Or SUV's in your case lol!

I would recommend our LS2 Stage 1 TorqueMAX camshaft for your Suburban along with CNC porting the cylinder heads with a nice VJ as well. Since you have a LQ4 with dished pistons that the dish is 6.7cc in volume you have well over .036" more P to V than a flat top piston motor with 317 heads. Because of this you can mill at least .035" off of your heads for compression as you mentioned.

Specs on that cam are 223/231 .610"/.617" 110+2

Just for the guys that have been following this thread here is a H/C/I package we did for a LS2 6.0 GTO the other week. Tossed it on the dyno Tuesday and here's what we got:

Martin what do u think about stepping up to the stage 2 ls2 torquemax is that to much what would be the down side of that one?
also i no you dont like talking numbers but could you ball park hp/tq numbers on the stage 1 and 2 on my 6.0.thanks again im finally gettin close to finishing the motor parts and get my swap done.thanks again for your help Martin

IMO, I wouldn't go any bigger than the cam Martin recommended, even then I think the LS2 stage 1 Trq max is too big. I'd go with a smaller cam like a 217/223 111lsa+3. I'm sure martin can do a custom cam better suited towards towing.
If you want a shelf grind then the Comp #54-455-11(215/223 112lsa+5) would also do a good job.

With such a heavy and massive drive-train your Suburban surely has, it's not going to resemble anything close to a dyno queen. It will probably dyno lower than you'd expect just because of the drive-train. That said, I would guesstimate power output with the Stage 1 TM camshaft, CNC ported and milled heads to be in the 360-400rwhp range and 350-380rwtq range. Those are very conservative numbers, but I'd much rather the result be higher than lower than my guesstimate.

As far as the Stage 2, I don't think it's a good idea in such a heavy car with towing aspirations. As BluZ28 said for a stock compression motor the Stage 1 is on the larger side, but with some compression and good port work it will work very well with a 2800 stall. A GOOD trans cooler will be a must have as well.

With good compression to make up for the pumping losses the added overlap and later intake valve close event will add to the combination I know it will work very well. If it were a stock compression motor I'd be a little leery, but I've used the LS1 and LS2 Stage 1 TM cams in some pretty heavy trucks lately along with some heavy off-road vehicles and they absolutely love the power it has down low.

Thanks. How do you stand on the FAST 90 vs. 102?

Also, what would give me the most gains on a stock 6.0 that will soon be getting your LS1 Stage 2 SNS cam-- porting my 243 heads or FAST 102?

Good point Martin, I overlooked the fact he's raising the compression.

Maybe a truck TM line of cams for stock compression heads...?

Ported 243 heads. Keep the LS6 intake on it until you just can't stand looking at your dyno graph anymore and want that last little bit!
