Default Ported Stage 1 LS6 heads, good daily cam around 400 rwhp

Would like some input from you guys on a Good Daily driven cam with Ported LS6 heads, motor is a Stock 01 M6 LS1, I'm looking at getting the Precision Race Components Stg. 1 LS6 Heads & Cam Package from Texas-Speed. but need help deciding on the cam.. I'm also looking into some Kooks 1 7/8 headers Along with there True duals later on in the next year.. Just curious of what you guys would think of a good street-able cam a little better then the LS6 cam that would put me over or around 390-400rwhp..

You need to get the compression up if you're going to use a small cam to meet you goals. Let us know why you want to go with a small cam, so we can better understand what you really want and what will work best for you.

I have those heads and a Torquer V3 cam. My car made 400/364 thru a stalled auto and a 9" Ford Rear. Should be in the 4-teens to 4 twenties thru a six speed and 10 bolt.

Vengeance Racing did a Speed Density tune on mine.

The TSP heads at 60cc and the 228 cam with headers put you at 400-430rwhp.

So are you wanting a smooth stock like idle, or a lumpy idle?
Powerband, stock like, or...?
How about the cam lobes, mild or aggressive?

400hp isn't hard to get if you are doing heads and a cam. You could get 400 with just a cam but it'd be a more radical cam to do so. Stock LS6 intake will get you there as well.

I like the idea of 1-7/8 headers with the stock size exhaust valves. That combo with the right exhaust lobe on the cam will make for some really good torque down low that still carrys great up top.

Lashway just did a nice build on my C5/MN6. TSP 228R 114LSA and milled budget heads with a thinner cometic gasket. Put down 450 on their dyno but just has a slight rumble at idle. It will do parking lot speeds in 3rd with no lugging.

I am interested in this as well on a 99 6 spd SS with about 30k on the clock. Looking for bang for the buck with a broad power band. I am totally stock now but, thinking LS6 intake and Kooks with this package. Drivability and reliability are key for me.

I would suggest our Vengeance Racing VRX4 camshaft. Excellent drivability/broad power band/nice lope at idle. Your goals would be easily achieved with this camshaft and your mods listed above.
