Finally pulling the trigger on parts!
#285
Finally spent some time on the car today.
Radiator, water pump, power steering, throttle body, coil packs. All out. Fuel lines disconnected and emissions removed. Decided to take a break before going after the intake manifold and exhaust manifolds. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have both of those and the balancer off. Then i can pull the heads and front cover and get to the cam. Then I'll take the weekend to pull the trans and install the torque converter as well as the fuel pump.
PCM is out and on its way to EPS for a baseline tune as well.
Then hopefully the new cam will be here early next week and the flycutting tool will be available and I can make a run at getting it back together before next weekend.

Yep. Slow pace and working on it as I can.
The most horrifying things thus far: passenger side rear bolt for the coil packs. And that bolt on the rear of the driver side head for the bracket that holds that AIR crap.
Something tells me the bolts for the manifold might one up them. I'm not sure there's enough room to actually pull those. lol

I'm thinking of pulling Trac and Cruise. I don't use cruise and won't be able to with a cam with 16 degrees of overlap...
Pulled most of AIR. Need to get that giant *** heater under the wheel well today.
Oh, and trust me, those rear bolts are not going back in.

Nice progess thus far Jake. This is definitely one of the best, most thought out build threads I've seen. This should be an absolute monster once completed. Are you going to swap to an LS6 valley/run a catch can?

Never knew that the 02 cars came with the LS6 valley. If that's the case, you're very lucky. I had to dremel part of my block to install that damn thing.

There's no sense in upgrading the 10-bolt. Maybe if it was a bolt-on car, you could spend the money and try your luck. But I'm not driving a spool on the street. lol
10-bolt is the lightest. 12-bolts are maybe 30lbs heavier? A 9" is about the same but stronger. S60 is a little more than that, and somewhere between a 12-bolt and 9" in strength.
I like the S60. Good engineered solution that's good enough for most cars.
If you need a rear to withstand huge huge power, something like a MWC Fabbed 9" would be best.
