Default TR227/224 cam vs TR224/224 112

Is it proven to be true that the 227/224 cam puts out more. My friend is going with this cam in his 99 we have basically the same mods except I have the Z06 intake, he has an ls6 which are sopposed to be the same I know...
Him 99 Z28-M6, FRTA, Hooker LTs, Cutout, Ls6 intake, he has a choice since he will not order until next month and I told him since he had stock heads the 224 would be the best cam for power, he is a magazine reader and theres nothing wrong with that, info is info.
For my curiosity.... Which does put out more. Anyone with numbers of the 227 cam on an M6 with stock heads
Any input is appr.
Thanks

Blue = TR 227/224 112lsa
Red = TR 224/224 114lsa

Only change was the cam between the two dyno runs.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Of the two cams, did the red have a smooth idle like stock because i'm looking to get the most power out of stock heads and still have a silky smooth idle.

I don't get it when I ordered my cam like a week ago they said the 227/224 was NOT available with a 112 LSA... I wanted a somewhat choppy idle... now my question is what is the difference in power between the 112 and 114 LSA versions of the 224/224???

I thought the 227/224 came on a 114LSA? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
Yes the idle is choppy on stock tuning with this cam.

Here is a sound clip of this cam op on stock tuning.

VTTRAPNTA: The 224 114 cam had a very good idle. I wouldn't call it stock sounding by anymeans. It drove and performed very well at the track.

monSSter1191: The 227/224 is most definitely available on a 112lsa or any LSA for that matter. Just specify this when ordering. It will be a custom grind, since it is not something we normally only stock the 114lsa. This will take an extra 4-5 days.

2000SLVR_Z28: The dyno graphs are from my car. I had all the bolt-ons at the time, running through a cutout and 12-bolt/4:30s.

Jayson,I need your opinion on a cam swap please.

I run the TR224/224-112 now and wonder what I would gain swapping to the TR230/224-112.Would 2 tenths be too much to expect?

I had Thunder mail order tune and wonder if any new tune tweaks would be needed for the 230 cam.

I will be sending my PCM in to raise the rev limit from 6800 to 7000 on the current set up.

TIA.

Default Re: TR227/224 cam vs TR224/224 112

Josey, I'll print a graph tomorrow with all three on there. Here is what I have now:

TR230/224 111 vs. TR224/224 114

TR230/224 111 vs TR227/224 114 -red is TR227, not TR224 as the graph says.

jfm, I really doubt you will see 2 tenths going from the TR224 to the TR230. I think ~1 tenth would be realistic though.

Just raising your shiftpoints and bumping your revlimiter is about all the tuning you will need to change. My PCM was unchanged from all the cam swaps I did.

Not to change the subject completely, but you guys with the TR 227/224, what do you have your rev. limiter set at?

SlammedSS02: I had mine at 6800rpms, but was going to put it at 7k if I would have kept the cam longer. I swapped the TR230 in there shortly after and did move my revlimiter to 7k.

I like thoes cams but I dont like the fact that im gona have to change the gears. I like to be able to take people on a freeway race (more top speed) and from the red light too (more acceleration) what should I do. I think as far with gears as I wil go are 3.73's

This is exactly what I'm looking for - 224 vs. 227/224 vs. 230 - so is there going to be a problem with the stock 3.42s?? I won't be changin gears until I get a 12 bolt, which might be sooner than expected with one of these cams.

Thanks

Default Re: TR227/224 cam vs TR224/224 112

I have a B1-cammed, 98Z 6-speed with 4.10's, headers, and bolt ons.

I drove a friend's car around last week for a while, he's got a TR-224 cammed, 98Z 6-speed with 3.42's, headers, and bolt ons.

Both cars are running very similar tuning. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Drop my car in to 3rd at 70, it takes off.

Drop his car in to 3rd at 70, "where's the revs?". It's gotta play catch-up.

Gears REALLY wake up the car, according to the old butt-o-meter.

It won't be a problem, but you won't 'enjoy' the cam as much without gears.

My 4.56's are on the shelf awaiting install. <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
