I Googled it and eBay has them for about $5. You want a low "cracking pressure" so it opens when air is going the right way. The one I found was .5 kPa which seems pretty low. You can always SD tune like I did and then use a breather.

Not to beat this to death but here is what I'm talking about. Under WOT the TB blade is wide open and the pressure differential between the two sides drops to nothing and crankcase gases take both ways out. This also shows where the check valve would be.

Where does the blowby/pressure go if this valve stops this reverse flow to the TB?

Through the catch can, the other path.

out of the valley to the can and ultimately back to the intake?

Yes, that's the normal flow of the PCV. The check valve just keeps things flowing the way you want.

Yeah, i think it just hit me right after I posted...
from the intake side, its normally pulling vacuum thru the can....at WOT with no vacuum, If there's blowby/pressure, its being pushed thru the can

Thanks svede

Sorry for the hijack Darth

How are you liking the MM catch can so far?

I'm confused why there is a breather on top of the can -- Wouldn't that let unmetered air into the intake?

The breather on the can should have a check valve, and only vents unwanted pressure to atmosphere. It's only there for wide open throttle, when the crankcase gas is being pushed through the can.

I'm liking it. Getting far less burnt oil smell in my exhaust. This weekend, if I can find time, I'm going to follow Svede's and RedBird's suggestions to relocate the can off the cylinder head. I'm also wanting to pull the throttle so I can see how much oil is getting through. It was disgusting before - but at least caught it early. I also think Svede is correct about putting a check valve at the air inlet on the valve cover. During WOT, the gases don't care about which direction they're supposed to go. They just go.

I did find another as yet unmentioned reason to move the can off the motor. I picked up a new squeak. Thought it was the belts. When I touched the can, the squeak stopped. So, getting the can mounted remotely and away from that engine vibration should fix that as well. I will also put a thin strip of tar paper inside the strap as an insulator for the noises - similar to the way old gas tank straps were done.

Picked up a new issue, though, and I think the oil pan is going to have to come off to fix it. When I go WOT, something over by the oil filter is spraying the header collector, so the car looks like it's on fire after a hard pull. I already had some oil pan gasket seepage, but this is something else. It's definitely down low near the oil filter.

I'm expecting to order the clutch on Friday. As of now, the plan is to pull the oil pan while the tranny is off to make it as accessible as possible. I have a friend with the Kent Moore front and rear cover alignment tools, which I'll use to get them as perfect as I can. Then, after putting the new transmission back on, I'm hoping to have the new exhaust in hand to be able to install it all in one fell swoop.

Can't change a plan if you don't have one, right?

Default Couple of Testimonials

I find I have gotten pretty used to the power now, so it no longer surprises me like it did at first. So, it's always neat to hear from independent voices...

1. My dad visited, and he owns an M3 and a C6 (LS2). Took him for a spin, and the first pull, he shouts "Holy ****, son!". Then, I let him drive it, and he breaks third gear loose without dumping the clutch, starts cussing again. As he's driving it, he never took it above 5K. i kept telling him he's not hitting the full power, and he says, "Don't need to. It's too fast". We get back home, and my wife asks him how it was, and he says, "Far and away the fastest thing I've ever driven."

2. A fox-body (of all things) pulls next to me at a light about a mile from the gas station I'm going to pull into and starts up with me. Typically, when I rev, people just back off, but he didn't. So, light goes green, and it's not even close. I pull into the gas station, and he follows me. As he's getting out of the car, he says, "I didn't know you had nitrous". And I don't, and I showed him. He saw the intake and heads and says, "OK, well it isn't stock". Then he shows me his car, and walking around back, I see a "F*CK YOUR LS1" sticker on the back windshield. I tell him he should move it to the front so the LS1 can see actually see it. Then he calls me an a$$hole and drives off.

Great come-back I got the same reaction when some guy told me I didn't have a "real" GTO. When I asked him if he did he pointed to his '70 and I said "That's not a Ferarri, they're the real GTOs. That's a Lemans"

"I didn't know you had nitrous..." Typical response from another butt-hurt mustang owner who just got spanked by an fbody.

The funny thing is that his block would grenade before he beats you in a race, even if he was equipped with nitrous.

The comment about putting his bumper sticker on the front, so people can read it in the rearview mirror is too damn funny.

Just finished this thread start to finish. Took me a couple days but very informative thread and awesome build!!! Great numbers too. I had to go back and reread some stuff with my notebook and take some info down lol. My wife says I'm even more of a dork now than back in the day lol. But definitely tons of info in this thread.

My Mamo 220s will be here Monday and then the rest of the parts I'm sure over the next couple weeks. I can't wait. It will definitely be a slower build for me because I have a 1yo that tends to looks like he's having a lot of fun and wants me to join in every time I'm going to go out in the garage. But I'll get it done and it looks like it will be well worth it. I've read a few of these threads lately and no one seems disappointed at all.

Can't wait to see more! Awesome build!

Thanks! I did the thread trying to chronicle all the pitfalls so others would be able to follow a guide. So I'm really glad it's working for you.

Totally understand about the 1-yo. I have a bunch of kids. The whole family was visiting the in-laws and outlaws for a three week period. I was constantly poking Tony to hurry up and get parts to me.

If I build it while the family is home, I'm taking time away from them. If I build it while they're away, I'm thoughtful and considerate to do it while they're gone. And I don't have to listen to crap for three months. So I blew through it on a diet of caffeine and sudafed.

Tony has more time to talk at 1am than you think

Lol. I feel ya. I couldn't imagine a bunch now. This is our first so he's probably going to be spoiled. I was supposed to tear the car down and get some measurements and from my block and rear end and get started on these mods but I just built him a lifted Radio Flyer wagon for his 1st birthday which I went overboard with of course. Took a lot longer than I thought

Thanks for the tip! With all the posts I've been reading recent I don't know if I'll have much trouble lol. And everything was out of the car this past winter so shouldn't be too bad. It will be nice when I'm not suffocating my car anymore.

Can't wait to see your next set of numbers too
