Default Coolant in oil

Finally got my s10 swapped and noticed moisture under the cap after a few drives. Checked oil and was very milky also noticed oil in the coolant. Got the heads pulled but there isn't any noticeable tears. Should I go ahead and swap gaskets and hope for the best? Its a 2000+ ls1 from an f body. Any suggestions on how to check for cracks in the block without pulling it?

Swap gaskets, install heads, connect hoses, install coolant...

and then use a cooling system pressure tester (borrow from parts store) to pressurize the block...

the tester's hand pump has a pressure gauge, should see pressure holding indefinitely...

if pressure drops then you have to locate the leak (remove engine oil drain plug check for coolant, remove spark plugs check for coolant).

Consider a die penetrant kit. Clean the deck surface off really good and fully dry. Apply the penetrant and wait 30 minutes. Then apply the developer. Any crack will show up plain as day. You can also test the heads in a similar manner.

The block, never done that but the suggestions above seem to be sound. For the heads I would just take them to a machine shop and have them look over them. They will let you know if there is a crack or if they need decked. Just an option.

I was under the impression pressure testing isn't reliable because nothing would be up to temp. Is the dye safe to use on cylinder walls and pistons?

You can pressure test cold or hot, should do both.

You pump it up to 18-20 psi.

Yes the die is safe. I wouldn't use it in the cylinder walls, mainly because you'd have trouble getting them clean enough for the penetrant to be effective. The due itself cleans off with solvents. I know for sure acetone and brake cleaner will get it off.

For clarification, I did accidentally leave a step out. You want to clean the die off with a dry rag before spraying the developer. I don't get back to work until next week, but I have pictures of how the cracks will look.

got the heads back on with new gaskets. Pressured up the rad and its leaking into the oil pan still. Is it safe to assume its the block that is cracked?
