Default Questions About LQ4 Pistons

I just bought an LQ4 to build and the bare block is now at the machine shop to get bored .030" over. They called me asking me what piston I wanted to use. I'm being told that since my engine is older it uses press fit piston pins. I'm hearing that all of the newer 6.0L engines use free floating pins.

Can I convert over to the floating pins with my factory rods? Or, do I have to go back with press fit pin pistons? Where can I buy press fit type pistons for my application in a hyper-eutectic flat top piston? I'm building a very mild engine that will NEVER see a race track, nor nitrous, nor a turbo. I just want a little bump in compression to better work with my Texas Speed Mid-lift cam.

I'm looking at Summit racing right now, but I'm open to other vendors if anyone would like to recommend one.

You cant use LQ9 piston on a press pin rod . You need to go with a oem 4th gen rod 2005 + . Or go with aftermaket Scat , they start around $ 330 .

Yes you can. scat doesnt make a floating pin .945 rod in an i beam. They do in an h beam. they start at $440. eagle doesnt either.
Scat has a pressed pin i beam they are $300 on our site. You can hone and bush them if you want as we sell the parts for that but the machine work plus the bushings would be about the same as an h beam set.
You can use the floating pins on pressed rods, some have no issue at all and some need a slight hone thats all. You just dont install the wire locks.

Are you saying that you can use a oem LQ9 piston on a 2003 LQ4 pressed pin rod ? Maybe your talking about an aftermarket piston.

Ive sold about 10 sets so far that do just that and installed as many this year also. like i said sometimes it presses right in, sometimes it needs a slight hone to fit, but that is all.
