Oooof. That stuff will eat aluminum. Contains Sodium Hydroxide. If you dipped the castings in a pool of it, they would be nothing but seats and guides left over time. Get that stuff off of there ASAP. Bad idea. Google it if you don’t believe me.

That was a concern. 30 minutes didn't discolor them at all. I sprayed them again and let them set a couple hours and they did start to discolor. I had to scrub them with a brillo pad. Here's the finished product. I didn't perfect the deck surface since they'll be getting milled.

The exhaust ports are completely shaped and finished to 120 grit. How fine should I take them? The intake seats have been sized. I'll tackle them Monday. Lighting is so harsh in pictures. They are super smooth to the touch.

How much will my 78mm LS6 intake hold back my new setup? 11.17:1 compression, 233/240 11+3 cam, ported 243 heads. Should I go DLS2 w/cleaned up runners or TPIS 90mm LS6? Or, is it worth messing with?

And the heads. Look up stuff about boundary layers and airflow and you should get the idea. Same principle as the dimples on a golf ball making it go further.

Look at most CNC heads. They leave the tool marks

THIS is why you port, but do not polish. Any time I read here that someone is going to "port and polish" their heads, I cringe a bit. Old school....

I thought that only applied to intake runners, and that exhaust runners should be polished.

I have not seen polished exhaust runners in a while. The intakes were more critical back in the carb days to keep the gas in suspension and not wet the walls. But it has been found that dry flow benefits also due to the boundary layer effect as Darth mentioned above.

The intake ports are all roughed in and one of them sanded out to 80 grit.

Only the Z06 LS6 243's got the light valves. Another way besides weighing them is measuring the length. They are .027 longer if I recall correctly, and the LS6 cam had a smaller base circle. Super weird deal.

Nice work on the heads man, those look great. What did you use to cut the seats out perfectly center and round? Or did you just whittle around and around with a burr?

I agree with others that you're looking at cams that are a little too big, then said if it isn't hard to tune it isn't big enough, then said you're concerned about driveability issues from a FAST 102 and don't want to rev over 6500... None of that works together.

You should have no issues shifting well over 7k and I don't know why you wouldn't take it to at least 7, ESPECIALLY with the cams you're looking at.

I think you should back off the cam just a hair and go quite a bit bigger on the intake. With head work cam etc the intake is likely gonna kill 30 or so at peak. And over camming it can kill power too and make it soggy. For crisp explosive power keep static and dynamic compression high, do what you already did on the heads and thin gaskets, but size the cam accordingly and put an intake on it that lets the setup breathe.

I've never heard of a 102 causing driveability issues, but if it didn't then it's too small eh?
I have however heard some of the throttle bodies make tuning more difficult. Supposedly the WARR is easy to tune with and dirt cheap.
The FAST 92 would be far better than the stock manifold, and the 102 even better.

Edit: SUPER SUPER sweet car man, congrats on the find

Double edit, gotta compliment you again on the home grown head work. Those look great.

The heads are done and the mess cleaned up. The exhaust valves had some pitting, but they lapped in nicely. Now to get them to a machine shop and have them decked .007"-.010".

Does anyone know of a good shop in the Cincinnati/Dayton area to deck these heads for me? What can I expect to pay?
