The build was originally meant to use my ls1 block but it wouldn’t clean up at standard bore plus .0035, so I used one of my aluminum 5.3’s and bored it to ls1 spec.

Haha not a problem. That raises the question, should I just tell everyone it’s a 5.3 or just continue calling it a ls1 🤣.

got the heads roughed out to the intake, very very pleased with how well it all came out.

Did the block bore out to size without issues?

Thanks.

Yessir! Couple posts above I posted the sonic results. Those are how thick the steel liner is, then you have the aluminum backing it. I have an l33 block at 3.908 for a couple years now also over 700whp.

Haha no problem man!

Assembled the short block today. Gapped the top rings at .0024 and the bottoms at .0026, rods and mains all came out right at .0031/2. Also happy to report that the dome clears the .060 milled 862 heads with .040 headgasket. Progresssssssssss

Nice.......clearance is the reason i didn't go with a dome piston. The ones i found when i bought my mahle's were not to be used with mild heads. The mahle's was alot lighter so i figured it was a fair trade off.

So, did you have the deck milled or anything else?

Thanks.

Yup I was wondering if they would fit these tiny chambers without touching them.

Assembling the heads now. This is the final port work I did. I’m happy. No idea if I hurt it or helped it but I think we will find out.

What do you have the throats opened up at? How much of an edge is in the chamber around the intake valve top cut?

I didn’t do too much there, what I did was-

port matched to the intake

removed the rocker bolt hump and smoothed that area a lot.

blended the seat lip into the bowl, smooth as glass in the transition.

removed the swirl ramp and cleaned the area up on each side of the guides and bullet shaped the guided.

same with the exhaust side, bullet shaped the guide, cleaned the whole port up and slightly gasket matched the sides and roof of the exhaust port while leaving the floor alone except for polishing it.

there is is a pretty decent lip around the valve seat in the chamber. I’ll go get you a picture now.

Open your throats to 1.80” and 1.40”. Blend that edge on the intake valve to the top cut. Don’t worry about the exhaust side.
