Default Which way to link bar lifters go?

I bought a set of lightly used 2116LSR Johnson Lifters LINKED HERE. I know they are used, but couldn't pass up. They're going in my 6.0 LQ9 build, steal block, 317 heads, Vinci Cam, etc. etc. etc. I didn't get any instructions with them, and cannot find instructions anywhere online.

It appears as though they could go in either way, the port on them in dead center of the lifter where pushrod sits. However, the link bar, does it have clearance issues in Gen III LS? Which way should it face towards the valley or the exhaust manifold?

Wheels go down.

OK I had my fun -- put the link bar on top - toward the center/valley of the engine, not down / away toward the sides.

I don't think they'll even go in at all, or if so, just barely. They'd rub on that side of their cavity. If they fit without interference it won't too much matter though.

They won’t fit with the links down, in several of the bays. You would have figured this out yourself as soon as you started install. I recommend you test fit the outer lifter sets. The outer bays curve inward at the top and the links become dangerously close to the block there. Especially at the rear of the block. Might need to clearance the link rivets a tad, if shortblock is built. If it’s not built yet, clearance the block.

Thanks everybody for helping with my novice. I don't build every day, or every decade for that matter but when I do, I have lots of questions!

I'm going to field another question here... Johnson's website HERE for some reason reports these lifters as being only for Gen IV and up LS motors... I'm building a Gen 3/4 motor. I think my block maybe a Gen III 6.0. The casting number on the crankcase is 12551364 They fit, the oil port seems to be in the range of the oil galley as well. I cannot see why they would not work.

Here's a video of what I'm talking about... https://drive.google.com/file/d/115Q...ew?usp=sharing

I see where it says 2005 and up but also says LS1. I used them in a LS1 build on my own car. They are fine for the application.

Just be aware of two things - the pushrods will end up longer than what you normally see on LS postings. Closer to 7.7 inches vs the normal 7.4 second, you gotta measure all 16. When you order a set, you might end up ordering several different lengths. Best to use someone like Manton who can give you oddball lengths like 7.683 within a few thou.

Awesome thanks. I was a bit nervous about pushrod length so I left them till last to buy. Haven't bought them yet, planned on measuring everything up as you said. Forgive my novice but how do you measure pushrod length... I'm assuming as I've never done it before, first I have the adjustable pushrod to measure with... I go TDC for each piston then put the rocker arm on with pushrod and adjust it till slack is taken up? Then measure the pushrod... Not sure about preload though, any idea on preload?

I was going to order form Roger Vinci. He did my cam and springs. He said he can deliver to my spec after I measure.

Got all the lifters in. I soaked them in oil all day long. Then went to slide them in the block. Most went reasonably easy with little to no resistance once lined up. However, a couple met some resistance. I kind of wonder if it's not the bottom lip by the roller having some burrs on it. Not sure if that would ever get pushed up far enough to go into the guide / block.

Long story short. I verified it's in deed the lifter not the block by playing musical lifters. It's perceivable rubbing / a little drag if I lift the lifter up, like in this video here:
