Default Calling all Cam Gurus....help me pick

Help me pick a cam for my 2001 Camaro SS....current mods are SE 1 7/8 longtubes, catless y-pipe with cutout, SLP dual/dual, Yank SS4000, power steering delete, Frost tune.

my last Camaro was a 98 M6 and Predator-Z recommended 227/231 .614/.617 110lsa.....it was perfect.....9* overlap, pulled hard and made 401 to the tires even with the much hated 806 heads...the LSL lobes were quiet, i used PAC 1518 springs and the tuner said it was the flattest torque curve he'd ever seen....

so my question is would this same exact cam do well with similar mods and a 4k stalled A4?....or should i go a little bigger?

for what its worth, i dont care about revving to the moon or doing airplane speeds in the interstate....i want sound, an absolute face melter....looking for the nastiest idle i can squeeze out of a stock head/cube 346....of course i want it to run good, but im not necessarily chasing dyno numbers....car is NOT a daily, only driven on weekends and to work every now and then on pretty days....what would you recommend and why?

What comes to mind for me is the Tick Performance SNS (Saturday Night Special) Torquemax V2. 227/235-110+3. 11 degrees overlap, very torquey cam, great power under the curve.

That said, it's not that much different from the one you have used and you love the one you have, so maybe the best idea is to just reuse it?

I would reuse that cam.
That 500 bucks could be used to send the heads to katech for a port job. More power to be had in the heads for sure.

I would defiantly reuse that cam, those are great specs.

I ran the summit 8702 236/246 110 .612/.612 Lift, in my 4K stalled auto and I LOVED it. But it was in a 6.0 and I wanted it to sound like a dragster at idle.
It had insane midrange and pulled to 7k but if I had your cam I would do like mentioned and use it.

Thanks for the replies...I agree, it was a great cam...i kick myself for selling that car, never thought id miss rowing gears lol....so ill get Cam Motion or one of the other sponsors grind me an exact copy.

now my question is would this change y'alls recommendation if i were send my 241's to AI and get the 219cc HCR treatment bumping the compression up to 11:1?

(I plan on keeping the LS6 intake for now, but with head work i know i would have to get at least 36 lb injectors.)

aftermarket heads id probably look into the comp cams 54-458-11.

Also for nearly the same price i would consider maybe the tsp 225 as casts? Just a thought.

pair with a fast 102 if budget allows. would be a stout combo.

The Tick SNS2 Darth mentioned would have been my suggestion as well BUT since the Predator-Z recommended 227/231 .614/.617 110ls was perfect, I'd stick with it.

I picked up a set of Advanced Induction 241 HCR about ~ two weeks ago in Marketplace. Based on discussion with the seller, I suggest contacting PCM of North Carolina as an AI dealer to buy the AI heads instead of AI. I think you'll find dealing/communicating with PCM faster, more satisfactory and much less frustrating than trying to communicate with AI directly.

I'd go for ~11.7 or so compression on the AI 241 HCR's with the 58cc or 60cc chambers. Might as well get the max benefit. Mine are 58cc.

While I haven't had the AI 241 HCR's installed or flowed, they appear to be good quality. I think they will end up costing enough new from PCM/AI that getting a set of (better) S2.5 ported TEA LS6's would cost about the same. I'd check Marketplace for a good deal on TEA's. I have TEA S2.5 LS6's on one of my cars. Have had ~ half dozen plus sets of ported LS heads etc 😀

While the stock LS6 intake is a good intake manifold overall, that really needs replacement for best results with a 90/92/102 Fast or at least a 90mm TPIS/LPE snout mod'd LS6.

Best wishes with the mod's!

thanks man....i swear your name looks familiar, im pretty sure we've talked on here years back....i really appreciate the info on PCM, ill check them out....ive been watching the classifieds here everyday, was eyeballing that set of HCR's listed a few weeks ago....almost sent the guy money but chickened out lol....

always wanted a set of AFR's since people say the flow so well down low, maybe ill pull the trigger on the 215cc's and fast intake one day, probably next year if budget allows. This cam will keep me busy till then

That sounds like a fantastic plan with the AFR's & Fast!

Funny, I think your screen name looks familiar as well! We probably did chat back in the day.

Not trying to hijack, but what happened to Predator-Z???
To the OP: I once owned a set of AFR CNC ported 225 heads. They were on a Darton sleeved 427, before the LS7 came out. They were the nastiest, and ONLY, aftermarket LS head castings around back in 2005. They were a slight restriction at WOT, but talk about midrange torque!!!!! Even with an A4 in my C5, car would go squirrely at 70mph in 2nd gear!!! BADASS heads in their day. May still be on a 346!!!

@PREDATOR-Z is definitely missed, would be cool if he checked back in. Definitely knew his stuff.

Not sure what the details are, I've had a couple of years away too at different times.
