Has anyone used a AMS racing 408 short block. Looking to build a boost engine. Looking for personal experiences with LS 2 6.0 engine builders and thoughts on them good or bad.
I know what I read in the Google reviews. They are rated a 4.7 out of 5 currently. Based on this thread engine-builders-around-shreveport-bossier, it looks like AMS has been in business for over ten years which is a good sign. Read the company was founded in 2000 so 22 years.
Most negative Google reviews were by folks whining about shipping time.
One complaint was hilarious 😂 😃 😄 😁 the idiot didn't know an aftermarket RACING cam required dyno tuning and blamed the shop for him not knowing despite the fact the moron mail ordered it!
AMS Racing is without fault, this issue was the customer's fault.
AMS Racing seems happy to talk with customer's, I'd give them a call and discuss.

Thanks for posting the review. I needed a good laugh today. I have to wonder if that guy maintenances his stuff….I mean…nobody told me I HAD to change my oil, type of thing.

Well, technically you don't have to change the oil... How ever, the engine may not live as long...

Yeah, that is a real Mr. Obvious episode. "Gotta tune when changing performance-related parts?? Wow, never made the connection..." LOL
From: Halfway back on the Highway to Hell...again!
WOW, I haven't heard AMS mentioned in a long time. Back in the early to mid 2000's they were doing a lot of work on the LS platforms. I never had any personal dealings since I always had my own local machine shops I dealt with. But they were discussed on here quite a bit...damn, 15+ years ago. I don't recall any major complaints, but like I said, 15 years ago. I barely remember yesterday.

LMAO! This fella obviously hasn't researched the subject much. Hopefully, he spent a little more time researching planned parenthood!! I can hear the whining now...'Nobody told me I'd need to buy diapers for the next 3 or 4 years if I did THAT!!'Give him some cheese with that whine!!!
Unintended Consequences & Diapers! He'd probably have twins.
I wonder if Brett Little bought his car/truck NEW and thinks the oil doesn't NEED be changed because it's NEW!
FWIW - I'd like more about folks experience with AMS's short blocks as well.
Twins indeed!! Opens up another whine he'd have if buying Ford Coyote cams....'I don't want to buy 2 cams, I only want 1!!!"......
Sorry....I digress.....
Bringing this thread back to the top.. im also considering going with one of their 408 LS short blocks for my Camaro. I guess at this point im just trying to find a reason why I shouldn't order one from them? They seem to be quality engines. Figured id ask before I pull the trigger..
Just looked at their site and they have some pretty damn decent short block options. I would be curious to see more reviews from people that have their work.
Did you customize anything for your 408 short block like different pistons etc?
Had bolt holes on short block been chased?
Any surprises? Would buy again?
Out the door prices inline with website?
I'm kicking around idea of a stroker short block 408/416 at some point.
Didn't really customize anything perse. I told them my uses, My desired compression ratio, My cylinder head choice and CC of chamber, My boost level and future boost level. They chose the piston to match. Ended up being Mahle Powerpack forged with Mahle matching rings.
I can't 100% verify if every single bolt hole was chased or not but I had zero problems with any. All head bolts went in by hand most importantly. All the covers and oil pan bolt holes were perfect.
I can't say I was surprised about anything. Maybe the crate and pallet lol. Incredibly well packaged.
So far I would buy again.
No hidden surprises or charges. Price was exactly what is stated on their website for the minimal options chosen.
Most importantly they did not charge my states sales tax which would have been a lot if they did.
I think the total was 4300 (iron block) and 650 dollars shipping (damn near all the way across the country) which kinda sucked.
