Default Piston slap, what oil solved yours?

I'm curious, for those of you who were able to solve your own piston slap problems, what oil did you switch to in order to solve it?

What oil were you running?

I know there are quite a few of you who successfully acheived this.

I used a little olive oil, mixed with some vinegar and garlic. It didn't help with piston slap, but it sure made my steak taste good. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />

I'll say this, I had the slap on my '02 vert while using Mobil 1. I tried Royal Purple, Redline, and a couple of others to no avail. Went back to the Mobil 1, and it was the quietest.

Believe it or not.. I had very little to no piston slap (at least any that you could hear) with Mobil 1 - 10w30. I switched to Mobil 1 - 15w50 (I know, I know.. Too thick but I'm experimenting because my vortech headunit bearings were making a noise so I thought a thicker oil would help).. Anyhow, now the piston slap is very noticeable, not to mention the rocker or valvetrain noise is very present. This stuff is obviously too thick and I plan on getting back to 10w/30 by the weekend.

My girlfriend has a 99 Z-28 M6 with 55K miles with obnoxious piston slap. Sounds like someone beating on the block with a hammer. I’ve used Mobil 1, Redline, Royal Purple, and Valvoline synthetic, all in 10W30. The new Mobil 1 Super Syn or Redline are the quietest with nod going to the new Mobil 1. Royal Purple is quite a bit louder. And the loudest slap came from the old Mobil 1 Tri-Syn, and Valvoline. I was almost thinking of trying Mobil 1 0W40, or mixing some 15W50 in with the 10W30, but it’s pretty bearable now, with the just the 10W30.

Any of the 5W30 oils were much louder as well, plus the car would burn a quart in 2000-3000 miles with those.

On my Trans Am, which has very faint piston slap, the new Mobil 1 Super Syn, and Redline, both in 10W30, are the quietest there as well, basically the same results as above, but the TA was quieter to start with.

I must be one of the lucky ones because my 57k 98 formula doesn't burn a drop of oil or have any piston slappin. I have always ran the mobil 1 5w-30 in my car and changed it on a regular schedule. I have not tried any other oils considering 5w-30 is working fine for me. However, I'm going to try some amsoil the next oil change since i got a case so cheap.

ps- I know the previous owner ran mobil one in the car too, so i'm pretty lucky to buy a car thats been taken care of.

I went to redline 10-30 and it helped the noise quite abit. IMO For the summer time i am going to go to 10-40 for oil pressure purposes. I like to see 70psi all the time. Nothing is really going to make the noise completely go away though.
