Default K&N Oil Filter (HP-2006)

Are there many people using this particular filter for their 98-02 LS1 cars? Have they encountered any kind of noises from this filter? I am getting a tapping noise during start up, about 4 or 5 taps then it goes away. Sometimes it makes this noise every now and then, but goes away while I'm driving the car.

Just installed one today. No noises here.. Although it hangs a little lower than I expected.

Yeah, the clearance is really not too bad and the pipes coming from my stock intake manifolds hang a little lower than the k&n oil filter. Any ideas what the noises could come from?

It's not coming from the engine, and seems to be coming from under the shift console... I had a shift kit installed in the car, but it was installed about 2 months ago, so it seems unlikely that the shift kit would be causing the noise now. The tapping noises seemed to start after I changed my oil and installed a new k&n hp-2006 oil filter in my car. Oil pressure is normal and never reaches zero. It usually fluctuates from under 40 to 50 psi or so. I have not seen any evidence of an oil leak. I just thought the tapping noises were unusual, and I have not had such noises occur when I was using mobil 1 oil filter. This is the summer, and outside temp is usually around 90 degrees average, but never exceeds 100 degrees. I use mobil 1 5-30...

Have you hit the rev limiter recently?
Make sure that all of your spark plug wires are secured.

No, I don't think I ever hit the rev limiter at all. Whenever I'm close to reaching the red, I always let go of the gas. I don't race this car very often, and it has never been taken to the track as far as I know. The stock spare plug wires looks fine. I am assuming that the car is still running on its stock ac delco plugs straight from the factory. The car has around 40,000 miles on it now BTW.

Mobil 1 runs to the thin side. Do a seach on Patman. He has lots of posts. I would use 10 - 40 if Mobil1. I use castrol Syntec 0 - 30 made in Germany. You can get it at Autozone.
